Intermittent fasting: does it work?

I do it, don't do it though it's fucking terrible you NEED to eat at least every 3 hours to keep energy (snacks like apples between meals)

On work days I eat in the morning and then don't eat again pretty much until 10pm when I get home from work and I eat a lot .my body looks great, my mind, not so much.

I only do this though because I have IBS and don't want to have a random episode at work

It seems like it would work when you first start it..but you can also mess up your metabolism, especially now that you are at a growing age.

Any diet you start will help you lose some pounds because the first thing that goes is water weight..

But you have to think...is it sustainable?

You can't be on a diet for all year long so you have to find the perfect balance between food and excersice~

IF is simply a meal timimg protocol that works for some people. It is about finding an eating pattern that allows you to comfortably stay in a deficit. There is no magic to it. Studies show that weight loss is pretty much consistent, no matter the diet, if calorie restriction is the same.

So give it a try and see if you like it. Some people love it while some people prefer 6 meals a day.

It can work if you also keep track of your calorie intake. Consuming more calories than you should while IF will cause you to gain weight not lose. When I keep track of my calories and fast (8hrs eating - the rest fasting) I do lose weight and it's the only days I'm not bloated; I actually have a flat stomach :o I don't always do it bc it's not sustainable for me with my fcked up sleeping schedule. Give it a try and see if it works for you, fix your eating and fast hours based on your schedule and if you get hungrier in morning or night, good luck.

How old are you OP? If you're young, I suggest you to just cut out junk food (soda, potato chips, candy, ice cream), eat healthy and do exercise. I don't recommend diets for someone still growing.

By the way, I'm not a nutritionist or dietitian but I lost 10 kgs in 7 weeks due to IF (with only 30 minute walking total for everyday when I walk to the bus stops). I did limit my calories to 1500 a day, I did the 16:8 method. I skipped breakfast and had lunch at 12 noon and dinner at 7pm. I liked to reward myself with a huge meal after work so I didn't eat much for lunch (only ate 400-500 calories worth of food) but I always have yummy dinner, though I stuck to home cooked meals instead of eating out so I knew what was in my food. I do personally love soda and couldn't let it go so my fridge is always stocked with diet sodas, but even with it I still lost weight.

What I liked about IF is I never felt deprived and it helped me keep to my caloric restrictions, with all the walking I did it made the weight fall off faster. I imagine if I actually had a proper exercise program (cardio and weight training), I would've lost much more weight and become more toned. I'm still doing IF now by the way since it's been ingrained in my lifestyle. Still losing weight without feeling deprived, though I do notice I regain a pound or two during weekends when I fall off the healthy eating wagon (like when I drank a milkshake and had pizza)
