What got me on the first episode was the world building, I was fascinated at the characters explaining how everything works around them. Besides that it seemed average at best. Then that cliffhanger, then episode 2 and later the switch of perspective. And so I thought this may be the real deal.

The world building and drama of the characters are fleshed out well, being the switch between Stella's and Yuuki's perspective among it's strongest storytelling points since not only highlight the difference between them but between the Kingdom and the Empire.

However, there are flaws, the obvious one is the fight secuences, a bit dry despite being dynamic and sometimes the overall plot can seem pretentious. I mean, at first sight it seems is pushing the old "WaR iS bAd, ThErE No GoOd oR bAd jUsT a GrEy LiNe" but after this last episode it may be something else. (A coming of age story perhaps?).

In any case, so far it has a lot of interesting elements that make this show unique among the current line-up of winter, but it still need to take those elements to the next level to make this truly the surprise of the season.

Yep, I was right in keeping this as a potential surprise of the season because it never took off.

On the second half, the hints about the empire being the bad guys got too obvious with the kingdom's clear disadvantage. However, the disadvantage did not stopped there, storytelling wise it was heavily one-sided in favor of Stella's side over Yuki's which led to the script to be extremely pretentious on it's objective of humanisation of the "bad guys" which instead of improving the show just held it back by no giving the same chance to Yuki's side, which served for world building and plot progession.

Overall, good start, strong world building and fleshing out characters but failed to put all those thing in a overall story and execute it well. Still a recomendable watch for the world building and characters' constructions and development as well.
