Dupladé 2,865
Most of you probably don't know him but Star Wars Theory has the biggest Star Wars fan channel on YT with 1,4 million subs. Here is his explanation: TL;DR: I've been following how he put this project together and what happened in short is, Lucasfilm green lighted the Vader fan film but said that he CAN'T monetize the video and can't crowd found it. Everything he spent on it (150k dollars) was his own money. The fan film was shot with the same type of camera they used on Solo and he even paid for a music composer so he wouldn't get into any copyright issues. So now..Disney MANUALLY claimed the video and so far they earned 80k dollars off of someone else's hard work. The copyright claim says, a rendition of the Imperial March was used therefore that money belongs to Disney/Lucasfilm. SWT is one of the nicest guys, he never said anything bad about Disney's SW or Kathleen Kennedy etc. to grant a reaction like this. It is incredibly petty that Disney did this..I have no words. SWT never wanted money, it was a passion project of his but imagine working on something for years just someone to come and claim a whole video for like 3 seconds of music that sounds similar to theirs. I know Disney/Lucasfilm just lost ~100M on Solo and even more on their flopping SW merches/Battlefront2 but it is not the way Disney. Make good movies. Thank you. btw this is the fan film..get that money Disney lmao (assholes) Edit: Quite famous movie critic, Jeremy Jahns' comment under SWT's video, I found it interesting. Wait, you went out of your way to do everything right, and Disney still claimed it? You didn't have ads running on it, and you were never costing Disney any money by its existence, so what is the point of that claim? This has nothing to do with money for them. This is just to teach you, and anyone who might follow suit a lesson: "Star Wars belongs to Disney, not the fans". I was so pumped when Disney bought Star Wars. Was even pumped after the first couple Disney Star Wars movies....but a corporation monetizing a fan's passion project? This is very "imperial" of them. They could at least cut you a check for your efforts. I'm sorry man. In the end, please don't don't let this cost you any of your creative passion. smrookies girls 1,085
I don't know him but it's disgusting. 150k dollars is A LOT, I feel so bad for him. Disney obviously don't have any issue with people using their content to make videos or plenty of youtubers wouldn't earn money on their videos, while using disney copyrighted content. They have an issue with people making successful videos based on a content that is theirs, no matter if they actually used or now copyrighted content. They just want the money. I I hope that he will get justice because i'm not sure if they are legally allowed to do that (i mean it's just similar to their music, it is NOT their music) and it is disgusting. I don't even want to watch the fanmade film because I don't want to give money to Disney.
Hera Lee 634
Offtop: I'm sorry that I have to quote Bible now The Russian translation of The Second Commandment starts with words: "Ðе Ñотвори Ñебе кумира..." (literal translation is: "Don't create for yourself an idol") I barely know the whole commandment, but I guess everyone in CIS countries know these 4 words, even atheists. My interpretation of these words always was like... it's so meaningless, and it can stab you in the back, it can hurt you as much as deep you will get into it. I guess similar thing happened to that man. But that amazing guy regrets nothing even if he was hurt. He's just incredible I couldn't do this tbh. I'm really sorry, it was random and may be irrelevant

HUGE percentage of the SW fandom has a problem with how Disney/Lucasfilm treats this IP and its fans. His fan film was a big deal in this fandom and got such a positive feedback that Disney couldn't help but strike back somehow. They just shared last year's earnings and they lost hundreds of millions on SW. So many people think they got their 4 billion back but they are far from it. I don't think he will do anything about it, YT's copyright system is broken. Pewdiepie mentioned it in a video, he said you can basically do nothing about it when you got cr. striked.
