AKB48's Suda Akari doesn't want the culprit members to apologize/ leave the group: "It's cruel for girls in their 10-20s to be publicly ostracized"

Recommended Posts

Posting mine here bc didnt want my opinion to be with the tweet.

I'm not a AKB fan myself so I can't claim to know much abt the members, but someone brought this tweet up and I was honestly shocked. I know that the management is awful, but why is everyone denying any responsibility for the actual members behind this whole thing?? I'm sorry but this really doesn't sit right with me.

So it's 'too cruel to kick out the members who committed a CRIME bc boo hoo they'll be "ostracized," but maybe they should have thought of that before planning to assault their own member? In real life, you're actions have a consequence and they should be thankful not being in prison. How can anyone say with a straight face that the better option is for them to not only not apologize, but also stay in the group when already so many hints have been shown that they have continued to mock and bully even after the incident. In that Noe video, they even made fun of her for losing weight, they have no remorse.

What abt the VICTIM who was assaulted and will be TRAUMATIZED for life?? She did acknowledge that Maho will also be full with fear but we cant ever know the extent so what, theres no bother even trying? Idk maybe I'm overreacting but this is sending me all the wrong messages and indirectly pardoning the girls and not so subtly switching all the blame to management.

These girls are the ones DIRECTLY responsible for the assault and they should be held responsible no ifs no buts no excuses. In my opinion, leaving the situation without apology and kicking out the members is like leaving a wound to fester and rot, nothing will be solved and things will only worsen from the inside out

That makes absolutely no sense.

Celebrity or non-celebrity,younger or older, the culprits must be held accountable,it's as simple as that. This isn't a light matter at all,we're talking about a full-on planned assault.

It was an incredibly dumb and insensitive thing for her to say. Honestly, I'm disappointed by a lot of the members responses to this issue. Ironically I recall harsher commentary from them about Riripon getting married..

Sashihara seems to be the only member who is empathizing completely with the victim and understanding how disgusting it really is

There trash they didn’t just bully Maho they fucking leaked her private info and joked about the trauma she’s been going through after being jumped

Dasu can shut the fuck up tbh how does she think maho felt having management ignore her and the culprits roam free

what she's saying is absolutely disgusting, i am supposed to emphasize with the culprits instead of the victim?? bs, they have to take responsibility for their actions

I was honestly shocked and disgusted reading this bc she uses a lot of flowery words just to say that she thinks its better to bury this incident and forget abt Maho's suffering just so the actual culprits who were fine with assaulting a member don't suffer and so AKB's image with their fans doesnt suffer. it sounds incredibly selfish and cruel and just demeans the victim's suffering and importance of responsibility

I admire Sashi so much, she is popular and influential and uses her platform for good and to give a voice to those who cant. I heard Suda won #2 last year or smth and if she didnt want to use her voice to help the victim, she might as well have said nothing at all rather than this culprit enabling shit

This reminds me of sexual assault perpetrators getting super light sentences (or none at all) because they don't want to "ruin their future".

No. Fuck you. If you maliciously commit crimes that hurt people, you deserve actual punishment. What the fuck is wrong with people.

I like Dasu, but she really disappointed me with this statement. I love how empathetic she is, but she is empathetic with the wrong person right now.

On twitter, I see some ppl saying that dasu is just too "kind" and a "good person with good intentions" but from what she wrote here, I feel like she has priorities fucked up. Good intentions for members who ordered assault? What kind of "good" character is that, sounds so fake to me. Imagine if Maho hadnt escaped the assault, anything could have happened, and can STILL happen.

Dasu speaking up abt this in favour of Maho would have set a precedent, but now it's like just another reason to let the culprits know that whatever they do will be forgiven. It's like condoning the violence and bullying that goes on behind scenes and its such a bad message to send.

I honestly do not understand what her thought on what the ideal outcome of this incident should be. The perpetrators to be remorseful of the act, apologize, and promise not to repeat the same mistake? Then voila, everything is all peace and sunshine, they are now one great family. No, Dasu. This is not a fantasyland.

Her response irks me, so much. It comes off as either she is entirely naive, at her age, or she is trying so hard to protect the image of 'idol', which already becomes a public secret of not being all that pure and glittery and blah blah blah.

I totally agree with you there, her priorities are absolutely and totally fucked up indeed.

Crazy that none of the members are unambiguously going to bat for Maho except the ones out or on the way out. All of them fear being on managements bad side more than being on the fans bad side.

i hope this was written by their management because i seriously can't believe someone else would say such bs

take the culprits' side rather than the victim's? fuck off

I'm pretty damn sure that it was the management that made her write and send this.

I must say that she was very right about what would happen to the culprit(s) if they admitted to their doings. If you do one big fuck up in Japan, especially if you're a celebrity, you're done. Nobody wants to do anything with you or your family, and by now it srsly would no longer be only about the idols but their families too. But I'm a freaking European talking, the culprits who were born and raised in Japan knew the risks and took it.

Of course they were young, but it doesn't make their crime any less serious. Nobody knows what would had happened if the victim didn't manage to escape... That is pretty goddamn serious and it simply can't be swept under the rug..
