Dongshin University has been found guilty of giving preferential treatment to Highlight's Kikwang, Junhyung, Doojoon, B2ST's Hyunseung, BTOB's Eunkwang, Sungjae, and folk singer Choo Ga Yeol.

The Ministry of Education held their hearing on Dongshin University and Busan Kyungsang University on the 14th. During the hearing, Dongshin University admitted that the celebrity students were marked present even though they were not in class by taking in broadcast activities as attendance. However, there were no protocols for such before 2015, or any regulations that students could take attendance some other way. The Ministry of Education decided that their attendance could not be accepted.

Choo Ga Yeol especially was lecturing as a professor even though he did not have a graduate degree. His time on supposedly attending class lectures overlapped with his lecturing schedule, and he could not have been in class. He will not only lose his degree, but also his status as a professor.

The Ministry of education has decided to cancel the degrees of all 7 students. The university itself has been required to serve severe penalties to 1 student, mild penalties to 9 students, and warnings to 6 students.

Yikes...

Attendance is... a funny thing to me because there are definitely some classes...I don't need to fricking attend..like english comm was a WASTE OF MY DAMN TIME...(I got an A by the way) I did not need..to attend classes for that shit..and that's the truth..and to prove my point I slept in most of the classes I attended for english comm..the only ones I didn't sleep in right away was when we had to do a presentation or shit for marks (mid terms, in class assignments, etc...)

If it's that they missed out on assignments etc... then yeah okay sure.. that shit aint right but if it's just attendance and they did do their assignments, came and did the presentations, was there for tests, mid-term and final exams etc.. no student should be penalized ..celeb...civilian...idc idc attendance is annoying and for some classes in't needed!

It's unfair to see The university not being punished, Seriously, they should have their licences to educate go through investigation and the thought of revoking them should be put on the table to be discussed as well. They did bring in profits through an "illegal" and corrupt scheme they created, they do not have morals and prestige as an institution of education.

Might be my bias as a B2ST/Highlight fan but I think the ruling is harsh. I'm sure educational culture in Korean universities still value attendance as a sign of hard work, but so can be self-directed studying and completing assignments on top of a job. Attendance was absolutely never taken in my university outside of laboratory courses (which goes without saying) and exams. What's the issue if they passed all their exams and assignments?

Don't korea have online/distance university? Why get registered for classes if u can't attend. Also i find the whole thing weird tbh. To remove already achieved degree because if attendance.... Sound more like a witch hunt.

Prestige. To say you graduated from a top university. Not all universities or courses offer online classes. There are a few online colleges. Like the Global one that most of the BTS members attend.

This could be a witch-hunt. Probably a battle some have been fighting for years. There are many people who do not agree with idols getting special treatment. Looks like attendance will be their weapon. ("However, there were no protocols for such before 2015, or any regulations that students could take attendance some other way. The Ministry of Education decided that their attendance could not be accepted.")

Hopefully others are not effected, but who knows. I always thought it was pretty obvious many idols may not attended the require amount of classes. However if they are completing the assignments and passing their test, then that's fine in my book.

edit: I just noticed, all of them are from Cube.

I mean that's rough but understandable. Most universities where I live have an attendance policy and if you miss a certain number of classes you basically fail that class automatically. It can vary from professor to professor, but for sure almost every professor I've ever had takes points away for every missed class - or will just tell you not to bother coming back if you've missed too many.

Honestly it's their fault applying to the university knowing it was because of Cubes ties with the uni and also when they know full well they wouldn't be able to attend lectures, tutorials etc.

They should've applied to an online university if they really wanted to push their enlistment back that bad.
