Just finished the ranking evaluation part. I haven't looked up any of the contestants before the show because I like to base my picks on first impression and then add more as the shows goes on.

Just like the general public taste two contestants caught my attention so far Zhou Zhennan and He Luo Luo. I'm quite sure that Zhennan will be my absolute fav from this show. His charisma on stage is quite something! He Luo Luo is super cute and I like that his voice kind of doesn't match his visual lol. I need to see more of him performing to be sure though.

Other contestants that I'm keeping an eye on but aren't sure if they'll be staying on my list are Niu Chao (her reminds me of Deng Chao both his hair and face haha), Wang Chenyi, Wu Jifeng, Zhang Yanqi and Yu Haoran.

I'm surprised to see some of the X-nine members on the show but funny thing is that none of them are my favorites from the group. I actually only like Xiao Zhan but other members that I like are Gu + Wu Jia Cheng and Wu Jifan..none of them are participating. Although Xiao Zhan is so popular that I'm 100% sure that he would be guaranteed a spot in the final lineup so it's for the better.

Also I was searching through my memory for the longest time before I figured out why the guy in the pink shirt, Dai Jingyao looked so familiar. They kept showing his face and I finally remembered, Simba from Cannot Hug You.

I don't know what to say about the oldies...it's true like what Aaron said that there is no age limit for how old you have to be to be in an idol group but still their age.. I'm thinking about all the different concepts/styles they'll have to handle. If they would ever had to do cute/fresh/å°‘å¹´ concepts..can they really adapt? Sure Zhang Yuan deserves a chance just like everyone else and he absolutely is a good vocalist but tbh I don't think he is suitable...not Xueyang either. I also don't think that they'll make it in the end..I'm not familiar with Top Combine maybe they have lots of fans that'll vote for them but I doubt that the general public thinks the same. Let's see what happens. I'm sad that Feitong didn't make it but tbh he didn't shine in that performance.

Oh well going to finish eps 2 and watch eps 3 now.

Edit: Lmao, Alec sure looks happy as the mentor of F class.

Performance wise most of them were pretty good but I agree that song choices aren't the best. The only song that I like is Lesion but I thought the song title was Bingbian/ç—…å˜ so I had no idea it was that song until I heard them sing it. I also think it has something to do with the stage settings and its setup. QCYN have props and stage effects that makes the performances look good and more appealing (despite the weird editing/light).

Other than that I think the format with two teams performing the same song but different versions is interesting. The thing is though that they aren't always equally good so the team who gets a better version + better choreo have an upperhand. Also like ^ mentioned above I don't understand how they divided the teams..why did some teams have twice as many members? That also affects the performance and how it's perceived.

In eps three I got to know the contestants a little bit more and I'm surprised that Zhennan seems quite mature for his age. The way he thinks is mature but his lack of experience made him handling the situation with his team a bit wrong (you can say a bit immaturely especially when he just walked away). I find him really intersting and likes him even more now so he is my set favorite.

After eps three:

Zhennan

--

Luoluo

--

Chenyi

Jifeng

Yaochen

Niu Chao

Xinyi (Forgot to add him)

Yanqi

Dropped Yu Haoran and added Yao Chen instead.

Ma Xueyang actually blends well with the younger guys. If I didn’t know his age I’d guess him in his mid 20s. No idea about the other guy (is he a top combine member too?) because I haven’t watched ep 2 yet. But in general I agree with you. Idols are supposed to be fresh young people so unless this group aims towards a more mature image/concept, 32-33 y/o is pretty old. Also imagine if they end in the group with the likes of Zhennan and Luoluo that are almost half their age. It’s kinda awkward lol.

Yes, Xueyang and Zhang Yuan are both from Top Combine.

Look wise I guess they can pass if they get the right make up and styling. That's why Xueyang looks like he blends well. Although it's noticeable that they're older when you see how they act on the show. I don't know if they can adapt if it's a concept that is a mismatch with their age and their experience. I bet that it'll show.

I would prefer to not have them in the final line up but maybe they can refresh their career through the show.

I just realized that if Zhennan keeps his no.1 spot throughout the show like an already fixed member like Xukun. Wenhan etc He would be the first ever to be my actual favorite. I've seen all of the survival shows so far both Chinese and Korean but I've never had the no.1 as my first pick..some of them weren't even on my list.

Random but do these 2 appear more in ep 2 and 3? Because I don't remember them at all in ep 1. I don't even know which company are they from. I've seen a few people already mentioning them in their ideal line up.

Re: Xueyang and Zhang Yuan. I agree that putting 2 guys in almost their mid 30s with young boys in their teens/early 20s would be really odd. Like I said, idols are supposed to have a fresh/youthful concept so they'd look totally out of place with their experience and behavior. And even look wise they can pass for mid 20s at the youngest but if you see them next to contestants in their teens or even early 20s they look considerably older. But yeah, they can use this opportunity to get exposure and refresh their career. China doesn't seem to care that much about age as Korea (where you rarely see any mainstream artist past 35).

They do get a decent amount of screen time during eps 2 and 3. You will know who they are after watching eps 2.

Wu Jifeng is from the same company as Luoluo and they look quite similar too and Niu Chao has a character that stands out you can say.

I agree. Youthfullness is something that is very hard to "emit" once you get older no matter how young you look so they don't fit in with that age gap. Tbh there is already a gap between Peng Chuyue and the really young contestants and he is only in his mid 20's. (He looks old though...I thought he was the oldest in X-nine when first getting to know X-nine. Xiao Zhan on the other hand looks younger than he is.)

If they get their popularity up during the show they can definitely have a singing career as soloists or even duo, I mean they are great performers both of them.

He is almost on the cusp of being eliminated though...

Yeah, I know but if he manages to get past this elimination he will definitely rise.

Finally figured out why Ren Shihao looks so familiar. I've seen some of his douyin vids on my dy feed.

Actually, Wu Jifeng and He Luoluo aren't from the same company. Wu Jifeng is from ETM (same company as Liu Renyu) and He Luoluo is from Original Plan. Their first evaluation group was made up of trainees all from different companies.

Yeah, I noticed that when rewatching some parts of eps 3 today. I missheard the part when Jifeng was talking about how the staff from the show was mistaken him for Luoluo yesterday. I thought he was talkng about the staff from "their" company instead so I just assumed.

Then today I saw that they have different company names in the tag from the short interview clips. I didn't edit my post though..thought that most ppl wouldn't read it beside the person I quoted lol.

I'm not following Produce Camp because I don't have much time to watch but since Zhennan is in the show I decided to come see the comments, especially after seeing he was first (proud of him btw, I hope he'll keep doing that well)

I'm really happy to read this comment

Zhennan is indeed really mature for his age

I discovered him in another show and it showed a lot too (the show is Chao Yin Zhan Ji if you're interested)

Did you check out his music?

Btw he has a badge on OH is you're interested lmao

I did check out his music because I really like the song he performed during the evaluation, I Will Show You. Little Star is good as well but my favorite is still I Will Show You so far. I'm checking out the album you recommended atm, the genre seems to be different from the ones I've heard but the songs are good.

I know which show you are talking about. I've seen some clips from it because of some other contestants who participated on it. I might check it out when I've time. I also checked out his profile and saw that he was on the same season of that baby show as Jingyu and Jackson (I'm a Jingyu fan) so that's cool.

I'll consider getting his badge when I have enough post count. Have other badges in mind atm that doesn't even exist yet heh.

About the age thing...

Just wanna mention some things that many people probably have forgotten.

China =/= Korea

Being an idol in China =/= being an idol in Korea

How many young idols/young singers/young actors in China flourish after 2-3 years in the industry, compared to how many fizzle? Versus how many older idols/older singers/older actors in China actually start to blossom when they're over 26/27, and even after they hit 30s? This also applies to girls too, surprisingly. People still call those in the late 20s/early 30s 'fresh meat' after they start to get big even though they're not teenagers or in their early 20s. Although this applies more to actors/actresses, but the trend seems to be the same with idols too. Just to give a couple of examples, even though Wang Kai and Zhu Yilong are both mainly actors, but they're also considered idols when they first hit it big. Wang Kai was 33 when he hit it big with Nirvana in Fire and The Disguiser. Zhu Yilong was 30 when he hit it big with Guardian.

With the way Produce Camp is being produced, it's pretty obvious (to me) that they're trying to run from the usual Kpop formula. A 33-year-old Zhang Yuan trended after his performance in episode 2. If anyone thinks that he doesn't have a shot in the top 11 just because he's 33, gotta rethink where this survival show is being shown. Add the solo stanning culture to that, pretty sure 'the public' won't care how the debut group will look like in the end as long as their favourites got in. Even if he's already 33.

Yes, being an idol in China is different but so far the idol groups created from these kind of shows and the trending idol groups are from a younger generation. I'm not saying that Zhang Yuan and Xueyang can't be idols because they're older, I just don't think they'll fit in with this group judging from how old the other contestants are plus the current top favorites.

As entertainers they can still be considered "young" in this industry no matter if they are singers or actors.

It's not that I don't think they'll have a shot because they still have fans backing them. Everybody knows that being famous from before the show gives you a huge advantage. Just see how all the X-nine members are in the top and Yuehua trainees are guaranteed spots in the other shows. I personally prefer them not being in the final line up that's all.

On the other hand I have my doubts about that it's the general public who are pushing him to the top, I think it's his fans, for now at least. The show has just started, let's see how the viewers react to him as the show goes on.

If Yamy and Sunnee can debut in Rocket Girls, I don't see why can't Zhang Yuan and Xueyang.

They look even more out of place than the guys.

It's not about the looks for me, it's about the overall feeling. It's an individual battle but in the end the winning individuals need to be able to fit together as a group. I can't see them pull off all the concepts that the others can because they no longer have the youthful vibe.

Even if they do manage to debut in the end it might be a struggle for them to adapt.

If the majority of the viewers wants them to debut then it's fine by me. Like I've said before, I'll only follow a group that I like if not then I'll move on. I have nothing against either ZY or XY, I think ZY is a really good vocalist so nothing stops me from becoming a fan if he becomes a soloist or something. I think it's great that they can get exposure through this show...who knows maybe that's what they hope to gain from this.

Latest eps was great and good performances. I agree with the winning groups of the self composing and vocal category. The winning dance group was okay, technically their dance was the most difficult but the choreo was soso just a bunch of acrobatics mixed together.

I like both songs from the self composing teams, performance wise Nan nan's team >> and their group dynamics + teamwork really was the best one for me. They achieved what they wanted with that performance, definitely memorable. Although I actually like the other team's song better, too bad with performance.

Xinyi and Liu Te stood out the most this eps, I need Xinyi to join the top 11, he is my favorite vocalist of this season. I also need Niu Chao, Yao Chen and Jifeng up there then my picks are all in. Happy that Yao Chen rose this much, he deserves it. At least for now they're all safe from the next elimination and hopefully they'll all manage to stay until the last eps even if they won't make it all the way.

Lastly I find it so funny that Liu Ye's nickname is now Liu Ya because of Aaron's mistake in the first eps. Whenever they call him they also need to imitate the voice lol!

Haven't watched the latest eps but the last elimination eps was good. I like this kind of elimination format much better, much more fun to watch.

Coud somebody please explane to me why Zhou Zhennan looked so shookt with the song he became

And from witch artist it is

I dont realy understant the hole context in this scene

+ I really hope Yao Chen will go up in top 11 Nannan and his frendship is gold

If you mean from eps 7 then those are original songs composed for them. Nannan reacted like that because he wasn't sure that the song fitted him. The viewers got to vote for the center position for each song so the ones winning didn't get to choose their song. Actually almost all of them seemed a bit out of place for the song they got.
