Miss Fei 742
While i was studying in a Catholic School in Mexico, the teacher asked us if religion could made us better persons. I would change her question a bit: Can religion change a person for better? What do you think?

Irrelephant 4,710
It's all about intention People join a religion with cult ethic, people join a religion as a means to improve their wellbeing Religion doesn't "do things," people do them

TheStrange1357 703
it depends on the religion and on the person... for example my good friend Dakota used to be very sad and suffered with anxiety and went through a string of breakups and was a bit down on his luck however he went through this big breakthrough as a person and decided to start going to church and became a much happier person in general. He decided to get baptized and start attending a local church and now hes in a committed relationship and i always see him outside running because him and I do Cross Country at our school and sometimes i go running with him and it by the way he acts it seems like that old self didn't even exist... so yes i do think that taking part in a religion can affect a persons overall well-being
Ogre Shrek 8,980
Yes, but the converse is unfortunately also true. “With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.†― Steven Weinberg

Glou 2,430
Most of the religions carry great values like compassion, altruism, empathy, pardon... So i think some people could become better people if they begin to follow these rules, in some cases.I'm an atheist and I try to behave with these values though, so I don't think religion is the only way to attain that. I also think religion can be harmless (most of the time), but also very dangerous if used by the wrong people or in the wrong way. I'm not only talking about radical extremism, but also about discriminations against LGBT people, women rights, imposed religious laws in certain countries... Tolerance should be the main goal in any case. That's only my opinion, of course. I don't want to hurt anyone here.

sane 16,342
Sometimes, but usually not. People who go to religions they weren't born into tend to be weak (temporarily or by personality), and religion is designed to prey off of that in order to try to get them to stick around. It turns them into scripture junkies.
