I am fucking pissed by the amount of trolling that Mashima was pulling in those chapters. Who the fuck does he think he is by killing Ultear like that? No, bitch deserved a more worthier death. I like Gray but Ultear's life and powers are more valuable that his constant stripping.

 

 

He better make Gray better soon, because Natsu needs a worthy rival, and Gray is supposed to be his rival, right? Erza isn't a rival at all and Lucy doesn't have any use in the series except for fanservice. Out of the original 4-man team the only candidate remaining is Gray, but he's much weaker than everyone else*.

 

Natsu's only rivals are probably going to be other dragonslayers, which makes sense as they're going to get power boosts, but isn't that exciting.

Gajeel has the right attitude to be an interesting part, and he was the first dragonslayer revealed except for Natsu. He's the most likely candidate if Mashima (as many other shonen mangakas) wants his protagonist to have a rival. Sting is another option.

I agree. Erza is not a rival of Natsu and she never will be. I've only ever considered Gajeel to be Natsu's rival because he has shown this pure strength and hotheaded-ness that's similar to Natsu. Gray is weak, he's always been marketed as being strong, but I don't see it. To be quite honest, I'm still shocked that Gray was chosen to be a possible S-Class mage.

 

If Cana stayed away from the alcohol and trained 24/7 she could be a rival to Erza, but right now, Mirajane is the only person I can see rivalling Erza at the moment. However, she's still quite weak compared to the Scarlet Queen.

 

Lucy needs to strengthen up ASAP because she's pissing me off.

100% agreed. Gray's situation is a bit like Kuririn/Krillin in DB... Early friend/rival who quickly loses out in power.

 And Cana is one of my favourite characters, but I don't mind her not being very powerful as she's not much of a fighter.

The definition fits Gray perfectly. He gets busted up so easily whilst Natsu manages to kick-ass for quite a long time.

 

I prefer seeing Cana on the field and getting out there. Her powers are cool and I loved it when she used Fairy Glitter.

The whole continent bit in the second chapter got to me. What other wizards are out there? Are there more advanced civilizations out there? Really interested to see if FT goes outside their bubble.
