Do you celebrate your country's national day?

To start off, I'm Indigenous Australian, and my country's national day 'Australia Day' is celebrated on the 26th of January, which is the date of the landing of the first fleet in Australia (the first UK settlers in Australia), which marks the day that started the genocide of some of my people...

Technically Australia Day wasn't officially marked an Australian holiday until 1994 so the national celebration of it is relatively new. I personally do not celebrate the day both because, 1. I'm not very patriotic and 2. as stated in paragraph 1, a lot of my friends and family are for the changing of the date to another day, as there are indigenous people who do want to celebrate Australia Day but do not feel comfortable observing the day on the 26th of Jan due to what was previously stated, there are some councils across the country that have agreed to change the date to another date - with one city council, Yarra losing their rights to conduct a Citizenship ceremony by the national government due to agreeing to change the date from the 26th (Jan) to another date

I've always liked the look of Jan 1 becoming the national date if it were to change because that is constitution day and is already celebrated as NY day and a constitution is a much better thing to celebrate than an invasion. that or either the May 27, the day of the 1967 referendum - the day that all people became Australian citizens, and the Indigenous people were no longer considered Fauna (though the 2nd choice seems a bit too personal tbh)

I probably won't celebrate my national day even if the day is changed though. It's just not for me...

Oh my god yes. King's Day (formerly Queen's Day) is my favourite day of the year, there's festivity everywhere - either people drinking their butts off or the traditional flea market. I love the atmosphere of everyone being out in a big celebration of the king's birthday. People don't even need to have any strong feelings towards the king but it's just fun to be out.

Also, everything is orange.

Yes. I've had freedom fighters from my extended family and I value their sacrifice in kicking out the exploitative colonial power (Britain). Otherwise the day is a holiday so the family gets to lunch, and spend time together.

Interesting... what country. India? The US? Hopefully, we kick out the monarchy where I live one day, probably won't get rid of England until the Queen dies though... (so 5-10 years) I kind of get sick for paying the wages of the representative of The Crown...

India. When I even now see photos of the famines inflicted on Bengal by Churchill's deliberate hoarding...ugh!

Are you Aussie?
