yes. especially with the amount of predators online. the 'maturity' aspect that people discuss can and is used by predators as a way to lure younger children in, the 'youre so mature' sorta argument... that sorta thing does cause problems.

 

i was talking about this the other day with a friend of mine, and i honestly think that if i let my child have social media, i'd like to know their names on it. not so i could check everything they do, but just to make sure they're not doing anything harmful. i'm pretty against this entire 'just let your kids do what they want to do online!!! it's abusive to check on them!!' bc when i think about some of the stuff i've done in the past, i feel like i'd hate for my own child to be in the situations i personally found myself in. wouldn't wish it upon anyone.

a child should be monitored irl, and those laws should crossover into online too, especially if your kid spends a substantial amount of time online.

- for the record i'm not saying it's ok to invade every aspect of your kid's privacy!!!
