The Official Japanese Music Suggestion Thread

That song kinda reminds me of PC Music a little bit?? I listened to Par and my favourites were Woo Woo and Purple Pulp.

PC music is inspired by Japanese and Korean music so there is a similarity there.

If you really want to get into Japanese electronic music, there's the whole netlabel scene which has a lot of stuff going on. An article about it: http://pitchfork.com/features/starter/9554-10-essential-japanese-netlabels/

Hi, this is my first post here  I just started on japanese music, but I've liked a lot, actually

And I'm currently addicted to this:

So, I wanted songs similar to that, not just the song itself, but visually wise the video is also amusing.

Ehh, I wouldn't focus so much on the video, because it's just a video. The song sounds like a bunch of old urban songs from last decade.

Is there any current, good R&B artists around? and not the boring slow mellow modern R&B, something with a bit of soul.

People are probably going to recommend the recent EMI MARIA album to you, but in all honesty it's not that great (it's a lot of that artsy, mellow, modern R&B that you said you didn't want).

Unfortunately, there hasn't been a lot of good soulful R&B lately from new artists. Toshinobu Kubota's "L.O.K." album is the closest thing I can think of at the moment. (And he isn't a new artist.)

One of the songs from the album: http://j-urban.tumblr.com/post/114228635107/toshinobu-kubota-cosmic-ride-ft-aklo

Thank you!! those are perfect examples of what I don't want and do want lol. I wasn't feeling EMI MARIA at all, I'll have to check out Toshinobu's album asap

Okay, this is going to be interesting. I've been a J-Pop fan for the longest, but I haven't been listening lately because of how hard it is to find new songs/albums/artists. Can you recommend me anything new to listen to?

I'd like to listen to electronic artists like capsule, Aira Mitsuki, Perfume, and mini, so those in that tinge. Even stuff like recent m-flo would be nice to hear.

I'd like more acoustic/indie artists like Angela Aki, MiChi, and Rie fu. It would be nice to get those sort of soft tones in my music. But, don't give me a whole bunch of big ballad artists. I like these artists because of how relatable their music sounds, not because it's piano-based or guitar-based. I need relatable artists.

I need my R&B back… Crystal Kay, Miura Daichi, and Kato Miliyah were my go-tos, but they seem to be going more the electronic route. It's still good, but I want some real R&B back… it doesn't have to be soul, but it should at least be contemporary… Don't give me recent-Amuro Namie when I'm expecting 2003-07 Amuro Namie.

I know of the big four, I know of the main groups, I need solo artists. Preferably male, since I know I probably have most of the women somewhere on my iTunes…

For electronic, you should check out Suiyoubi no Campanella and tofubeats.

For the acoustic, Katahira Rina and Rihwa.

For R&B, EMI MARIA and a curveball: cero.

If you want males, try Masaharu Fukuyama and Hata Motohiro.

Any Japanese female soloists whose singing style/songs is similar to Korean singer IU? Some examples of IU's songs: Heart Friday Last Fantasy

I really need some more Japanese music for my repertoire.

Does anyone know any artists (male or female) who have a similar sound to Lady Gaga, Namie Amuro (specifically her FEEL album) and just a sort of EDM/electro-pop kind of style to their music that's not of the cute variety?

You should check out LIL if you haven't already, a lot of their stuff isn't on YouTube though, you'll have to find it in other ways...not too hard. I have heard many people compare their music and even the singer's voice to Lady Gaga. This is a cover LIL did of The Cardigans' song "Carnival" with an elecrtonic vibe.

And here's a mix of their album LIPS IN LUSH...

Is there any Japanese music that has a psychedelic or a shoegaze sound? I tried looking for Korean shoegaze and found ZzzAam, but they disbanded.

I like globe's first one the most. Never listened to the other group.

Okay, thank you! And I think you should at least give ELT a try tbh! eternity and Time to Destination are pretty good, but I was wondering what most of the ppl in here thought of their discog as a whole.
