What kind of laptops do you guys suggest to buy for college? I'll be a Biology major. I'm leaning towards a Macbook Pro, but I don't know if the new one will come out in time.  Help please.

Thank you :)

i got a macbook pro for uni and i love it

Thank you. Does it get heated fast? Also, would you suggest to get the one with retina display or is there not much of a difference?

my macbook doesn't heat up really.

honestly you don't need retina, unless you'll be doing a lot of graphics extensive work.

it only gets heated if i use on top of fabrics like my blankets so i'd suggest only using it on a desk or putting a book underneath it. i dont think you should get retina display because macbooks with retina display dont have a cd/dvd drive

I've been wondering the same thing as I'm starting college soon too.

I'm leaning towards a Macbook as well, I've heard from a lot of people that it's worth they money. My school told me to talk to people from my major's department at orientation and see what they say about computer requirements, so you might want to check with your major's department before buying  :)

But if anyone else on this thread would like to answer my question as well, I'd be grateful. Would you guys say that a Macbook would be better for me as a Media Production major? I heard Macs are good for video editing, which is what I'll be doing.

My Macbook Pro is like my baby. I love it. For your course, I would imagine you could use pretty much anything though, since as far as I know you don't need any of the things that make a Macbook good like it's graphics and editing software. But still, even as a word processing and browsing machine, it's better than any laptop i've ever had before or since. Mine has been going strong for nearly 4 years now with no problems at all, so it's decent value for money imo.

When I went to school, I had a HP laptop. It was about half the price of an average 15 Macbook, but you got way more for your money.

Long lasting, good customer support, easy to use, and is much less of a hotspot for thieves.
