NCT's China unit is called WayV and not NCT VISION because..

(not sure if this is already posted, but oh well.)

The tweets linked below gives a good explanation. Imma just paste it here for easy read.

There's already a bit of tension regarding Korean artists promoting in China and although the unit is comprised only out of Chinese members, debuting with "NCT" (a Korean group) in the name might not settle too well with the public. Hence they are called WayV/WeishenV.

SM wants to debut the China unit as a CPOP group, NOT a Korean group that is trying to debut in China, hence they don't have the label of NCT and their company is a sub label (Label V). This is the same reason why Lay and Victoria have their own studios in China for their Chinese promotions.

Furthermore, by appearing as a Cpop group from China rather than a Kpop group, they get the full extent of opportunities that they might not have if they were still under the label of NCT.

By the way, their Chinese name, WeiShen (å¨ç¥ž) is a transliteration of VISION. They probably got their English name, WayV, bc Wei sounds similar to Way (and V stands for Vision).

EDIT: ANOTHER THING, they will still be included in NCT 2019 LINE-UP. So WayV is part of NCT, but rebranded bc of political reasons.

Anyways, please anticipate their debut!

Their video teaser is coming up at 12AM Beijing Time,

which is about 6 hours from now on!

I don't understand this, if they trademarked it why now this name? maybe sm changed their minds?

Maybe they will be called NCT Vision when they're Korea?? Or they tried to introduce them to under that name, but found problems with it and thus changed it...

Almost. they will still be included in NCT 2019 line up. just a rebranding of their name to avoid trouble bc of political reasons.

Hehe you're one of the few that likes the name haha. I personally think it sounds funny, it sound like "wavy" and a good name to make the joke "they  be snatching our wayves!". I think we will get used to it, like how we got used to NCT VISION.

I think they will only promote in Korea for NCT2019 activities? Not too much, like photoshoots perhaps.. I'm honestly not sure they will do full-on promotions like NCT 2018 BOB though...

each NCT unit should have had a different name and permanent members.

I wish China unit good luck smile.png Happy for Kun and Winwin, especially Kun. He should have debuted 3 years ago.

Hope SM will manage them better than they did with EXO-M, which were initially a China based unit, supposed to promote there. Hope they won't change their mind and WayV will actually promote there, let them expand there.

lol @ group picture. Ten looks like a mafia guy. I'm curious about the music genre they will explore.

Also they're probably gonna do something with the name "NCT VISION" in the future? It's been trademarked by SM months ago.

I have a feeling SM will be debuting them as NCT Vision in Korea after WayV's Chinese debut and/or NCT 2019 introductions. NCT 2019 might be coming in February or March (NCT 2018 was introduced on Feb 1st).

Maybe they will be using 2 different names:

China - WayV

Korea - NCT Vision

I know this is not a good comparison but I kinda think of the situation like DBSK and SNSD. DBSK goes by THSK (Tohoshinki) in Japan and SNSD goes by ShÅJo JiDai in Japan. Lol, DBSK has so many different names that means the same thing in different languages - TVXQ (Chinese), DBSK (Korean), THSK (Japanese). Another funny thing I noticed is that DBSK's name basically translates as Rising Gods of the East while WayV's Chinese name translates as Powerful God(s). Let's hope WayV live up to their name and create a legacy in China like DBSK did in Japan.

I think their chinese name means VISION already. Just they can't use it in english because some people say the chinese gouvernement didn't accept the english name. So they had to change it to be purely in chinese. Idol Producer is facing the same rule I think.

There are no korean members in the group. WayV is a chinese unit for mainly China.

And I don't think SM will do the same mistake again after the mess with EXO-M.

WayV will be their only group doing chinese activities once Victoria and Lay contract end.
So I'm sure, SM or Label V will do their maximum to push them to do  many chinese activities now especially nowadays there are lots of competition in china for idols group who came from Survival show like IP, All for One, PD101 China, Fighting girls/boys...
The members that we may probably see promoting in Korea is Lucas and Ten.

. It's not the same situation.

Back then, it was hard for japanese and chinese to pronounce korean words (even today it's still hard). So they had to translate it to the local language to make it easier for fans and public to name them.
DBSK =  Dong Bang Shin Ki (it may means a different things in another language). For safety reason, it's better to translate it.

For NCT Vision and WayV, the chinese gouvernement make regulation, they didn't accept the name (rumor) or SM didn't want them to struggle to explain the NCT concept if they can't talk about Korea or Kpop.

Let's hope WayV live up to their name and create a legacy in China like DBSK did in Japan.

They can become leaders in China by showing a new VISION of what is a Cpop Group.
