I don't like owing people money, so I'd want to pay it off and not have it hanging over my head - but that's just me. If they don't have the money to pay, then I understand that because it's rough out there and if there's limited income, most people will choose paying for food or other things they need to survive before thinking of their student loans. So the only way to purposely not pay is to not earn much money....which isn't a great long term plan. My country have an option which allows you to voluntary pay certain amount every month. Pursuing tertiary education isn't even in the mindset of most people here, and with this economy it's still great to see people try despite not having the money for it. That being said, I don't really mind as long as they give back to the country (and legit cannot afford to pay back). Otherwise if they can pay it off but don't it's selfish. Here it just gets skimmed off your paycheck automatically once you earn over a certain amount and if you somehow don't pay it then the Tax office will come for you at the end of the financial year anyway. I can't afford it atm. Student debt over here will literally cost you an arm and leg. I plan on paying eventually nonetheless. But I’ve seen selfish people who can afford a nice yearly trip to oversea, an import car (which way more expensive than local one) and high end stuff but still don’t want to pay their students loan.
