The Nintendo Switch has become the fastest-selling video game system of this hardware generation during its 21 months on sale in the US.

The news comes from American market research company The NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. From its launch in March 2017 until November 2018, the Switch has sold more than 8.7 million units, outpacing US sales of all other current-generation systems at the same point in their life cycles.

According to Nintendo's internal sales data, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has sold three million copies in the US after just eleven days on sale, breaking multiple records in the process and becoming the fastest selling Smash Bros Game of all time.

It also sold 1.3 million units in Japan within the first three days of sale and became the fastest selling Switch Game in the UK (no confirmed numbers yet)

So one third of Switch owners already have Smash 0u0plz.png

it's honestly not all that surprising tbh, Smash has been the most highly anticipated game to hit the console since it's Release and will likely become the best selling game in only a short amount of time. The 11 day sales are nearly on par with Mario Odyssey (an October 2017 Release) which hit 4.7M units in the US. The hype for the Game is insane even for Smash standards lol

Yeah I expected it to sell at least as well as SMO and Zelda but I didn't think it'd sell this much before Christmas

The Christmas sales are going to be something else, I think SBU alone will help Nintendo reach the fiscal year target of 20M Switch units sold that they've been selling to investors.

looks like I gotta sell my Wii U to get the switch and Smash now. Props to Nintendo tho. The Switch is so damn innovative. With PS4 and XB1 you're stuck playing it only at your house but with the Switch, it's so portable you can play it almost anywhere. I think they were onto something with the Wii U and gamepad; they took that failure and made the switch. Good Job Nintendo.

Not quite related but what games do you guys recommend on the Switch?

I still hold on to the Wii because I love Trauma Centre so much.

It really depends on what kind of games you like,

for first party games in general I'd recommend Zelda BOTW, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Splatoon 2 & Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

There are also some great ports from the Wii U (if you haven't played them) such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Donkey Kong's Tropical Breeze + Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker.

There's a bunch of great Third Party Releases too, notably Mario +Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Octopath Traveler, Celeste, Dead Cells, Stardew Valley etc

and more casual party games such as Mario Tennis Aces & Super Mario Party (but I wouldn't exactly recommend them for first time owners) and if you're a Pokemon fan, the Switch has Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee but it's more of a Pokemon Go inspired Pokemon Yellow remake lol, I personally enjoyed it tho.
