A few of us were talking about her in the Arama Discord last night, and we came to the same conclusion: great voice, but the music is way too much in line with what is trending in the West, which left us disinterested. Then someone said they had seen Japanese netizens expressing similar sentiments, likening her to KPop. Is this why KPop fans have expressed interest in her, while few JPop fans have cared?

Well while I don’t exactly love that she chose such a western flavored rnb direction, I can’t say I fault her. She’s young, she still has room to grow. As for the Ariana jab imma pretend I didn’t read that... that feels like very western conclusion to make, ironically.

There’s a niche for her sound in jpop, I don’t see how that dilutes an industry as huge and well accentuated as the Japanese one. Tbh I think I’d have a bigger issue with it if she was purposely targeting a western audience through her sound, the way kpop groups cosplay as j-idols every time they want to chart on the LINE streaming chart for that extra nickel. Just saying.

She has a nice voice and I love RUSH. However, I listened to her album and nothing else really stood out to me. Her music is very on trend here in the West, but I honestly dont have a problem with people releasing music that is trendy. I have hope that she will improve over time and find her sound.
