That I haven’t seen in YEARS. I never run into people from my school years since I went to school all over with people from all over to boot. These were so called popular kids. I wasn’t exactly the happiest camper in middle school but I wasn’t bullied or shunned and most of the popular kids were either scared of me/or tried to include me, which didn’t really work... I was convinced if I actually accepted their attempts to hang out they’d figure out I wasn’t worth the hassle. So I remained aloof and stuck to my small circle and they continued to think I was mysterious and much cooler than I actually was. Looking back I wish so much that I hadn’t been so self aware. One of the girls, STILL ALL THESE YEARS LATER, glanced at me, recognized me and was about to open her mouth to say something - but I looked away so she didn’t. It was just like school all over again.

Anyway I don’t mean to be mushy but look - chances are you’re much younger than me since you’re on OH. And maybe you’ll read this and recognize yourself. If there’s one thing I’ve learned is how much we contribute to our own isolation, our own loneliness. That’s not blame, it’s simply things we learn as we get older, about how much we miss out on because we are too scared of not being accepted - so we end up not giving people a chance to do so. There could be a million reasons why of course. All could be perfectly valid. But promise me that the day you run into someone from your middle school years, you’ll try to muster the balls to look them in the eye and at the very least meet them half way. Not look down into your phone and hurriedly grab your cappuccino.

things aren't always that simple, sometimes you look back and think you could've handled things differently but at the time you did what you thought was better for you

No that’s true. I still hope some people realize you can impact these things a lot yourself tho. At the very least after the fact. And not be in your mid twenties when that becomes apparent.
