Recommendations for a boy group newbie?

I really need to check out more of the male artists in kpop. Love the ladies but have never really looked into the guys stuff.

If you had to put together a starter pack of boy groups best work, what and who would you put on it?

This is so person-dependent. I could always give you a list of my biases for BGs (Winner, Bigbang, Highlight/BEAST), but probably easier if we know what type of music you lean towards.

BIGBANG (especially their old hits like Haru Haru, Lies, Bad Boy, Blue, etc.) -> even their solos are good like Taeyang's "Only Look at Me", "Wedding Dress", & "I Need a Girl", their new songs are great too, but I just recommended their older songs because they give me a nostalgic vibe (and I can't exactly recommend one of the new songs, they just have way tooo many great ones to list all of them):

 

 

 

 

 

INFINITE (their songs are very underrated, but always gets you hyped up, and everything is on point -> vocals, rap, choreography... people just like to follow the "trend" these days so some may have forgotten how great INFINITE songs are, I recommend some of their best: The Chaser, Be Mine, Back, Bad, The Eye, etc.)

 

 

 

BTOB (especially if you are a huge vocal group fan, they have one of the strongest vocal line among boy groups, and their title songs are amazing; I recommend: "It's Okay", "Way Back Home", "Missing You", and if you like cute stuff "A Winter's Tale", "Movie" is pretty hype too)

 

 

 

BTS (even though I hate following trendy idols, BTS deserves a place on this recommendation list, their songs are just great if you are into k-hiphop 2.0 -> they follow the footsteps of BIGBANG with their great raps in songs, but at the same time, they have sharp dancing skills like INFINITE, and each line is just so on point (rap line, vocal line, visual line, etc.) too, so triple-threat; I recommend songs like: "Miss Right" & "Just One Day" (their more mellow songs from the past), "Run", "I Need U", "Fake Love", "IDOL", "FIRE", "DOPE", "Epiphany", "Euphoria", etc.)

 

 

B.A.P. (I feel so bad for them, they were one of the rising gems of 2012-debutees, but because they had a problem with their company, they went on a super long hiatus to deal with stuff and their momentum just died, they have some of the most awesome songs and quite versatile too since they did some cute stuff too; I recommend the songs: "Crash" & "Stop It" (if you like cute stuff), "Coffee Shop", "COMA", "ZERO", "ONE SHOT", "RAIN SOUND", "SKYDIVE", "1004", "WAKE ME UP", etc. I absolutely adore B.A.P. -> oh btw, I recommend also the MVs for "One Shot" and "Skydive"... they are like mini movie masterpieces <3 now, that's B.A.P. quality~)

 

 

B1A4 (they are one of the most underrated boy groups I know, their songs are just amazing, but people don't seem to appreciate them enough, and now only 3 of them are with the company :/ too bad, such a shame, but I'll still recommend some of their best songs: "Lonely", "What's Happening?", "Tried to Walk", "Sweet Girl", "Solo Day", "A Lie", etc. -> most of their title songs are quite light-hearted and easy to listen to, let's just say they give you really good vibes, and their ballads give you all the feels you can get~)

 

 

LASTLY, VIXX, they are like the king of diverse concepts, from voodoo, robot, cute, Chinese dance, anything you can name of, VIXX might've done xD LOL; their vocals are amazing as well; I recommend the songs: "G.R.8.U" & "Love Equation" (if you like cute light-hearted songs), "Error", "Eternity", "Chained Up", "Dynamite", "Hyde", "Voodoo Doll", and even their duo VIXX LR's "Beautiful Liar" is quite nice too)

Here are my recommendations! I'm trying to only really include newer boy groups that are still active incase you get into them, but there are a few exceptions!

These guys are a band, they have a lot of musical diversity in their discography. Lead singer is also an actor!

Day6 is relatively new, debuting in 2015. They're also a band, have a lot of edgy sounds. Super talented guys.

Seventeen debuted in 2015 as well, they mostly have upbeat poppy sounds. This one's a subunit but it's one of my faves from them. 

This has got to be one of my favorite songs of all time. It has a magical fantasy vibe that can put you to rest or make you think deeply.

An absolute classic imo. 

I'd also recomend checking out:

Big Bang - Loser
Infinite - Bad

I wouldn't say i have a specific taste. With the girls for example, i enjoy stuff from Dreamcatcher, Blackpink, Twice, ocasionally Mamamoo and Red Velvet... Lot's of different styles and concepts, i like a good variety.

Hmmm, okay, well the base 3 I always rec are Winner, BB, and Highlight/BEAST just because they're my faves. I think a lot of people already gave you some other really good recs, so I'm going to try and list a few songs/groups that aren't as known?

Complete was one of my favorite songs this year. Their debut song was also great.

 

 

 

 

 

As for my very old group to rec, The Boss was very underrated in their time. I really loved their song Stumble, Stumble. And one of their more recent songs was very good, Lucky Man (very ballad-y).
