allkpop fails horribly at being a decent news outlet (once again)

so NCT Dream's Jaemin joined the cast of a show that teaches celebrities English

they posted a teaser for it where Jaemin had to try to introduce himself in English

he couldn't think of the right words, which is completely normal considering it's a show to LEARN English and it hasn't even started yet

that's allkpop's hot take on it

here's the video so you don't have to actually give them clicks

I'm curious, is learning a second language not mandatory in Korean schools? English for example is mandatory in Germany, so I'm just wondering. Do they learn any other second language there?

I'm from Brazil and English is a mandatory subject here. However, the only thing I actually learned in school was the most basic grammar, and I can swear it was mostly the 'to be' verbs and some sentence structures until I graduated. No one graduates anywhere near fluent level (in both private and public schools). If you really want to be fluent you need to pay for an English course, which is really expensive here. I had to learn English by myself. I thought it might be similar in Korea and while looking it up I found this article so it seems to be the case https://www.gooverseas.com/blog/are-korean-students-really-learning-english

I'm amazed the allkpop is still even alive after all their bias "news."

I quit allkpop for OH as my kpop news outlet. Imagine how bad allkpop had to be for me to rely on OH for my kpop news. 0u0plz.png

You could try Soompi? They're pretty reliable and I don't think there's ever been any controversy with them?

But tbh, all the good tea comes from OH, I'm not going to lie.

English is mandatory, it's on the college entrance exam. They also take a secondary language for which they have a choice, I think. But learning something for a exam is different than being able to hold a conversation in it, obviously. also they start kind of later, like middle school, and teaching methods could be really different from in germany/other european countries. Plus we know idols tend to have kind of sporadic school attendance if they're already in training at that age.
