CS:GO Officially Becomes Free-to-Play Game

More than six years after the game’s initial release, Valve’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is now a free-to-play game. Players who already purchased the game will be upgraded to their new “Prime Statusâ€, which includes superior matchmaking options and Prime-exclusive item drops and weapon cases.

CS:GO’s move to free-to-play should enable a new generation of first-person shooter fans to experience the realistic shooter that has enraptured esports fans since its release. New players will have access to all game modes, matchmaking, and some item drops and weapon cases, though the amount of drops that will be restricted to Prime only members has yet to be released.

All players, regardless of whether they originally bought the title, will be able to acquire this Prime Status upgrade through a variety of methods. Players who reach rank 21 through earned experience that add an eligible phone number to their Steam account will be able to upgrade for free. Players who want to get everything the game has to offer right away can purchase the upgrade for $14.99 in the Steam store, whereas players who have already purchased the game are upgraded for free regardless of whether they attach a phone number to their account.

Earning Prime Status comes with a few different benefits for players. Veteran players will be glad to hear that Prime members will be matched with other Prime members, ensuring they are not put in the same matchmaking pool as brand new players. There will also be weapon cases and drops that are exclusive to Prime members. Players who have played the game within the last five years will also receive a CS:GO loyalty badge for their profiles.

This is just one of several big announcements Valve made today regarding CS:GO. Their move to free-to-play is accompanied by a new 18-man battle royale mode called Danger Zone where players will “use their wits, skill, and resources to fight to the death.†

Don't be suprise. I played CSGO since it was release back in 2012. Last year I quit because CSGO community is shit. Cheaters literally everywhere ruining the fun.

Another reason why I avoided that game. I can't stand hackers. I play FPS games with the skill I have (which isn't much lol) and I try to adapt. People that call a person with a high K/D ratio a hacker need to read a book.
