SEOUL--North Korean state media said Friday that authorities have detained a U.S. citizen who committed "hostile acts" against the country during a tour.

The man, who was identified only in Korean, entered the country on Apr. 29, the report said, adding that he remains under investigation.

The brief statement, which was just two sentences long, didn't specify the alleged crimes, but said that while on the tour, he had committed acts that violated North Korea's laws.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Embassy in Seoul didn't immediately reply to a request for comment.

The arrest, if confirmed, would make the man the third known U.S. citizen to be detained by the North. Kenneth Bae, a Korean-American tour leader and Christian missionary, has been held by North Korea for more than a year.

Matthew Miller, a 24-year-old U.S. citizen who arrived in the North on April 10, was arrested after tearing up his visa and declaring that he was "not a tourist," according to North Korean state media and the tour agency that arranged his travel, New Jersey-based Uri Tours.

Andrea Lee, chief executive of Uri Tours, said in an email on Friday that Mr. Miller remains in North Korea, and is "in good health."

sometimes i wonder if they let US tourists come to the country just for sake of randomly arresting one of them and creating a media scandal

I even wonder more why people would bother coming to a country such as North Korea  :donthinkso:

Unless it's someone important, this isn't really going to get much attention. North Korea already has two other Americans detained from previous issues.

this.

This won't be news... but i guess... way to ante up the suspense with a topic....... ..... .....

Edit:

TOKYO (REUTERS) - North Korea detained another US citizen in mid-May, bringing the total to three currently being held in the country, Japan's Kyodo news agency said on Friday, quoting diplomatic sources.

The man was part of a tour group who was detained just before he was set to leave the country, according to the sources.

He was arrested for violating visa regulations, Agence France-Presse reported, citing Pyongyang's official Korean Central News Agency.

In April, the North said it had detained an American, Matthew Todd Miller, who had arranged a private tour of the country through a US company. North Korea is also holding Kenneth Bae, a Korean American missionary who was arrested in 2012 and has been sentenced to 15 years of hard labour on charges of state subversion.
