Why are co-ed music groups so rare?

Also, what advantages and disadvantages do they have in your opinion? There are certainly a few throughout the years, like Sclub 7, A*Teens, AAA, Co-ed school, etc, so it's not like they don't exist.

There are others, but many of them are bands where the leader singer is the whole focus, like GND when they were around and Paramore.

In my opinion:

AAA is the only one that has truly done it well, and even then, they are 5 guys and 2 girls, girls who don't even get any lines. Co ed groups tend to have the issue of rather than 1 member outshining the others, 1 gender is generally.

For more idol like groups that dance, the choreography can be a problem, but I think it's more due to choreographers not really trying hard enough to come up with good dance for both the guys and girls. Again, AAA does it pretty well though some of their dances are wonky.

You have the big issue of relationships possibly being more common, so I guess that's why companies in Asia don't make too many co ed groups.

Co-ed groups can appeal to men and women, but on the flip-side, there are going to be a few who won't like having both sexes in the same group. Though you could argue this attracts more mature fans.

The music could be deeper and more meaningful without singing to one sex, like many songs do. That, however, can also make it harder to come up with songs. Also, the shifts in music going from one sex's voice to the other can be harder to listen to than just all guys or gals. It does give more variety to the song though.

I'd love to see more, but they rarely seem done well. When played up to their strengths and appeals, they can be great, but doing that can be hard.

Thoughts?

co-ed group doesnt sell in korea.

it's a great idea, yes, but why no company in korea produce that? Co-Ed School is a flop and CCM doesnt seem want to bring it back tho. It could be it's hard to manage also.

Because its hard to ship oppar with another oppar when hes probably screwing his female bandmate...

Because unnie will be too close to oppar and I will hate it!

True, but there have been successful co-ed groups, so what did they do differently?

I always had that question, too. Perhaps groups of one gender are easier to market. I always reckoned that it would probably be a bit strange to have males and females sharing the same dorm in Korean culture, so maybe that's a factor, too.

it's counter productive to have coed idol groups because the primary function of idol groups is to sell the illusion that "oppar is my future husband ♥" or "my future wife/sex object", hard to pull that off when there's already a dick or vagina in the picture.

there's lots of coed bands outside of the ones trying to appeal to the horny teen demographic

Maybe cause they ended up f-cking and when one wasn't feeling the other anymore it became weird...having sexual relations within a group isn't a logical thing to do since yeah as the above stated one would end up not feeling the other leaving the dumped bitter...so people don't mess with co-ed groups like that..they know the high ended risks...
