If their company continues to play their cards right, these boys will definitely be among the top boy groups in the near future

also luck & timing

for example, Right Here was through and through a Summer song, should've released that instead of Giddy Up

That's awesome but I hope melon stop sleeping on them too. They release bop after bop.

they need to throw a member or two in dramas & variety shows to get some gp reach

if it's not possible, at least do some web dramas

Yeah because nowadays the public rarely check for new groups unless

1) they're from the Big3 (and not always, look @ Stray Kids)

2) they come from a popular survival like produce

3) they're lucky that the song/dance goes viral, like Momoland's Bboom Bboom or Pentagon's Shine

They had a little attention at debut because the broduce hype was still kinda fresh and Haknyeon was one of the most popular contestants so they debuted in the 90s, but now that the broduce hype is long gone they indeed need more public exposure or otherwise the public won't even bother

It's either that or they shift their focus - try building a formidable fandom globally, which means consistently releasing fresh content with emphasis on utilizing social media. Most of K-Pop's profits don't come from Korea, they could target markets like Southeast Asia, Japan, Latin America or India, the latter which really needs some serious K-Pop fix. They're really young and they still have time, but the clock starts ticking once you hit a year old as a group.

Yeah, that's basically how BTS managed to become a top group. Their international fandom became so big and loud/active and they started selling so much that Korea started to check them out due curiosity but that not always works for all groups. GOT7 and Monsta X have big i-fandoms too (obviously not as big as BTS' but still pretty good) and Korea keeps ignoring them so...

It's a mix of luck + good timing + good promotions basically. The market being so saturated doesn't help either.

tbf Got7 and MX's music are in the "so-so" sphere for me while BTS has always been in the above average in terms of quality (though their recent title songs aren't exactly the bops I dig except for Tear because that's a great album)

I have been watching The Boyz but they didn't get my attention musically till my friend shared Right Here on Facebook last week. With that and No Air, they're musically promising and they sing live too. There's potential.

I agree in GOT7 but imo Monsta X releases some bops. Their last title track is one of my favorite bg songs this year even though I understand people that aren't into "hard sounds" don't like their music.

The Boyz have been releasing great music from the beginning imo. Their first 2 title tracks weren't that great but from Giddy Up until now...straight up quality bops tbh.

oh so this is where it probably went wrong, unless you had a lot of hype (big company, anticipated debut or whatever) the debut song is a must impress sort of bop. no wonder their sales dipped after.

but Right Here was a bop and we see the immediate effect it had for them sales-wise. at this point they really need to hustle & double time in marketing themselves especially in social media if they want to stay afloat since 2019 will be a bloody year with big shot rookies.

Well, music taste is subjective and maybe some people liked their first 2 title tracks more than giddy up or right here lol. But yeah in general a group needs to release songs that the majority likes in order to build a decent fanbase (+ having likeable personalities, etc).

Next year is gonna be as cut throating or more than this year. This year was mostly for girl groups with Gidle, Loona, Izone, Fromis, etc but next year will be for both with YG new bg, Big Hit new bg, JYP new gg, FNC new gg, possibly SM new gg, broduce new group, under19 group etc. I'm excited ngl. Kpop hasn't been this interesting in forever because it's been the same groups on top for a while.

I prefer no.3 tbh.....I really want to see they pull pentagon or momoland and it's benefits the whole groups not individual member...and creker right now trying so hard to push their visual line ( send them to variety show, media playing about their visual) and I don't know if this works out but I'm worried this only get pushing member solo popularity not the whole groups....

the talent jumped out

but they should really take advantage of having members that can speak english more

kevin moon is an treasure and is hilarious and what got me into them at first, he should be set loose on variety cause he would defo bring in new fans both locally and internationally

Sales didn't really dip after their debut though. The first week sales were kinda low for The Start because there were more fansigns in week 2 and fans were saving up for those. However, their debut album sold like 64k on Gaon and The Start sold over 70k albums, so a definite increase there. Also, to many fans, their debut song is still their best. You constantly hear 'no title track has topped their debut for me.' The user saying their first two title tracks were weak is more their opinion, because I know several people who hate Right Here as well.

As for variety, they're going to be on Idol Room soon and one of the members (Juyeon) will be on Law of the Jungle alongside Got7's Yugyeom and WJSN's Bona (I think it'll air in December) and two members - Haknyeon and Sangyeon - are on a travel/food based variety show on JTBC's Youtube Channel. So far, imo, they have the best variety promotions out of the late 2017-18 rookies apart from Fromis_9. Two members (Sunwoo and Sangyeon) were fixed cast members on variety shows in the past, they got a full-episode Weekly Idol special for 'Right Here', and Jacob and Kevin MC 'Simply Kpop.' Problem with them is that they're from a nugu company with no popular seniors. So unlike big 3 rookies, they can't appear on popular variety shows as package deals with their seniors. Therefore, Loen needs to rely on their company influence to hustle and get them on shows which is harder now than it was before due to Loen's declining influence.

Lbr, every rookie boy group that hasn't been able to find their footing with the general public yet (including Stray Kids, and possibly even Big Hit's new bg) need to be super afraid of the new Broduce season next year. With the last Broduce, we saw in front of our very own eyes how it essentially demolished these mid-tier boy groups, even NCT saw some of the repercussions. I would be extremely worried if I were the company of any unestablished rookie bg who debuted after Broduce season 1 ended.  I think even the Wanna One splinter groups apart from Nu'est need to watch out.
