Who did PSY exactly pave the way for?

sorry, but most people who listened to Gangnam Style didn't even know it was kpop. aksjkajs

^ This

for the PPAP guy and memetastic songs, he didn't pave the way for k-pop very much but more so for viral songs. I'm of the thought that GS actually hindered KPop's takeoff in the west, as everytime a person would find out I listened to kpop they would think it meant funny meme-like music and videos.

Viral Youtube memes. AFAIK

The one who revived idols market: TVXQ!

The one who paved the way to Japan (and Asia): BoA & TVXQ!

Who paved the way in China: TVXQ! & Super Junior-M

Who paved the way in US (and West): BTS

Gangnam style didn't paved anything in the foreign markets, it was merely a viral hit memes and memes shouldn't be taken seriously. Do you know what MEME is? It's like in DragonBall where they have Arale (a meme-tier character) who could beat SSB Goku without breaking a sweat. That's what a Meme is, it wasn't supposed to be taken seriously, the whole purposed was a joke and that's what it is. I always choke whenever people say GS helped Kpop's expansion in the west, just no.

People heard about gangnam style ilikeitplz.png

But i think it brought attention to the more open minded people out there that were curious about more music from south korea and they found out about kpop.

I personally was into korean dramas at that time, heard about his video, but it didn't really make me want to look further into the genre. I knew about some groups like super junior cause one of our music channels had a special hour for kpop and i listened to some songs here and there but i was not impressed and i was very confused (yes, their weird outfits in mr. simple made me cringe)

But i can't complain cause after getting used to weird things from their variety shows, i started watching kpop reaction videos and that's how i got into kpop.

Conclusion: After psy there was some sort of way for kpop to be recognised, but it failed in getting the genre mainstream. It was taken as a joke, just like the PPAP. Gangnam style didn't automatically get people into kpop.

Yeah, I definitely didn’t get into kpop off it. People heard of it, but it was something funny and viral for me.
