Do you think black gay men have a harder time of coming out ?

I feel like the black community is a big proponent of toxic masculinity, and men in that community can not be anything but masculine through and through. You can't dye your hair, experimentally dress, and be emotional(only to a certain extent). It's really sad I can only hope this shit will change.

The only reason I'm making this thread because allegedly Dwight Howard a NBA basketball player was "exposed" for being gay by his ex-boyfriend, and twitter is making fun of him for being gay. First of all we don't know if that's true, second of all why are people bullying him on social media for being gay holy shit, and why the fuck would the ex-boyfriend out him, you are literally the problem in the gay community, gay men outing other gay men....do you know how fucked up that shit is ? This entire situation just makes me shake my head...

Blacks get far more support from mainstream media than any other community. In LGBT culture, I never felt that Blacks had a major presence but mainstream media has mostly sided with Blacks as part of it's generic "pro-Black" attitude. It's easier for Blacks to get support from mainstream society - for example, Indians barely exist in LGBT culture, East Asians are a "Asia" issue.

Definitely. I am not black or a gay man but I was shocked at all the homophobia that came from black people on twitter when that basketball player was outed.

Isn't that why this whole DL culture exists?

Also 60 % of LGBT hate crime victims are black.

The life expectancy of black trans women is mid 30s.

Why are you making this into a who has it worse competition ? I'm literally talking about one specific community and here you are spouting bullshit. The fact you are just saying misleading shit makes it worse.

What bullshit? Everything I said is completely true. Blacks get a lot of support from mainstream society and therefore they probably have a better chance to come out without retribution.

They are thinking that it's all jokes and some are openly homophobic but it's all the same.

I have also seen many black women on twitter insult bisexual men.

You literally must be really stupid, a troll or just ignorant. I don't know which. Black people do not get support from the mainstream media. We are stereotyped as thugs, criminals, robbers and seen as "ganstas" by the media. Albeit it's less frequent now, but when I was a kid about 10 years ago I saw how we were depicted as, and I was scared of being near the cops and being shot. So don't tell me my race gets a lot of support. Do your homework.

My girl friends are like that too, it's just so stupid.

Some seem to genuinely think that the gay community is out here to emasculate the black man?

Why would gay people's main goal in life be to emasculate black men and spread their agenda to reach world domination?

Some seem to genuinely believe that.

I am guessing it comes from religion (many black people are very religious) and christianity is huge in the black community.

Nope cause Frank Ocean came out as bi as well as that creepy rapper who talked about raping pregnant women and they still get massive support.  Plus look at young thug, he dresses in women's clothes and still makes hits while black women say he is expressing his "black boy joy" (gag me with that phrase yuck!).

Who are you comparing them with?

Let’s put it this way, the most socially progressive people are coastal, urban, middle-class, college-grad, millenial, non-religious white women (source: http://www.people-press.org/2014/06/26/typology-comparison/education/). If you compare any group with them, then that group will appear less accepting.

This is what I was saying. I don't think that Blacks have a harder time coming out than many communities in the US, and most importantly they get far more media support in the US than any other Non-White community - heck even more support than Hispanics and Non-American Whites.

That’s not what wanted to imply. I meant more that it depends on a lot of factors. Poorer black are less socially accepting than wealthier blacks. Black women are more liberal than black men. Rural black people are less accepting than urban blacks. And so on.

I don’t think there have been studies that control factors like this. I’d say yes as a general question, because poorer people are more likely to be homophobic in general and black people are more likely to be poor. But comparing homophobia levels among two communities that are equal in every way but race? I don’t think there have ever been put to test.

What communities have a 'harder' time coming out then? Is the only race out there white liberal college students?

Pretty sure blacks in their own community have it way harder. At least here in my country... just one person needs to suspect you being a gay man and suddenly everyone hates you. (Now imagine trying to come out)m

Just a few days ago some pic about a guy named Dalton Harris (he's competing on X Factor and he's from my home country) went viral because he was being embraced by another male contestant .... Just that had the whole country slandering him and denouncing their support....

You're referring to nationality differences though. An gay person growing up in South Korea is going to be far more accepting of wearing cosmetics than a gay person in the US. It's to do with the nationality culture rather than race. A second generation East Asian in Canada is heavily influenced by Canadian culture.

I was once told by a black friend never to trust black men that didn't have facial hair. When I asked why he said it was because they were probably gay.

That blew my fucking mind.

Don't get me wrong but I've never seen a Black person with facial hair.
