Non-sciency people, which science did you like/hate the most: Chem, Bio, Physics?

In HS, I only took intro Chem, intro Bio, advanced Bio and intro Physics.

i hated all the memorization required for Bio. It was hard to visualize everything. I feel like if I knew "why" I was learning this stuff and how I could apply it to the real world, I would have enjoyed it more.

I feel like a lot of memorization had to come first before you could actually problem solve.

I think intro to Physics and Chem were pretty straight forward and more hands-on. Lots of fun labs. I think I liked Chem more. I still had no idea why I was learning these subjects though (esp Physics). And if I took advanced placement Physics or Chem, I definitely wouldn't have enjoyed it.

I wasn't horrible at any of them (but how bad could you possibly be at high school science lmao) but none of them made me passionate so I didn't try as hard as I could have. Pretty sure my teachers noticed I was BS'ing a lot of the assignments.

In hindsight,I should have been concerned with learning, not grades.

I also found that I was the most successful when I self-taught and used all the resources I could online rather than rely on the teacher/textbook alone. I wish I continued doing that in HS tbh.

How did you tell with all the Biology terms though?

It was definitely more straight forward when I took Chem/Physics.

Yeah but it's bearable. It's kinda like a story? Well I don't excel in it but I quite enjoy it haha

Physics may be straightforward but the reason I hate chemistry is it has too many exceptions rule and I couldn't catch up

Yeah I feel like diseases and the immune system and cells/genetics is a lot more relevant to most of us than a bunch of atoms and protons and electrons and shit.

The only science classes I remember anything from are my undergrad geology and biology classes. I guess I liked biology better mostly cuz the prof was so funny/weird-he was obsessed with Katy Perry and once told me that people from the South (as in the American South) are genetically more stupid because of a certain kind of probiotic they produce (or don't produce) or something like that (he was from the South so maybe he felt that gave him the okay to say that).

i hated physics in high school. could never wrap my head around all the technical terms even though i still passed the class with an A. i was pretty decent with biology and chemistry though, but it was also like, high-school level.

i'm not a STEM kid so i know i won't enjoy taking any of those classes now in college

I think you made the right decision. Most people who go to STEM program love the big and also small concepts of each science subjects. It's more about wanting to understand how it works rather than learning for applications.

I loved and hated Bio

I hated the part of the year where we learned about stupid ass plants or whatever boring

But I liked when we were talking about animals and the human body

Even though I was never really good in the class I’m not too good at memorizing

Chem is cool too my teacher is really chill so she doesn’t give us many chances to not like the class anyway

Bio was the most boring, Physics was difficult for me but my professor had so much patience, he didn't mind to explain the same thing over and over so I'm thankful for that lol. My Chem teacher was a nightmare, I skipped some of her classes but the funny things is... I used to love Chemistry, I learned most of the things by my own tho, thanks internet!

  • 2 weeks later...

It's something between chemistry and physics. Physics is difficult overall and our middle school teacher was quite stern so it was difficult to get a good grade. Fortunately, our high school teacher started using tests which were made by the textbook's author so it was easy to cheat if you knew where to find answers. It was the total opposite with chemistry. Our middle school teacher was a total sweetheart (she also taught us biology and would let us watch "Dr House" after we were done with the material) but the high school one turned out to be a monster and I almost had to retake the semester.

I've never had any problem with biology though. It was quite easy for me, maybe not on advanced level but at least I didn't worry about passing tests.

I like Bio the best, i found it interesting. I liked mechanical physics, but other than I didn't enjoy learning about waves. Chemistry was last, I don't even remember what else was there besides formulas and math. In HS I liked all these subjects because they were easy, but that changed when I took the courses in college.
