How do you get through an emotional meltdown?

What do you do in the moment, what do you tell yourself to calm down and come out of it? And if this applies, what do you do during the bout of crying and shaking, how do you get yourself to stop?

Do you deal with it on your own, or do you ask for help? Also for girls, is it mostly tied to your hormones?

I usually just let it happen if I'm alone and have nowhere to be. If in public, at work, etc I get to a restroom stall if I can and just try to think to myself "calm down" and take the deepest breaths I can. It's not tied to my hormones but to my anxiety.

When I try to calm myself down I take a deep breath and write everything I'm feeling at that moment on a paper. I don't lock those feelings inside me. This really helps me a lot.

If I'm still feeling weak I will call someone to help, my mother, my older sister or some of my friends.

Maybe some of my meltdowns were hormonal, since I don't think I have anxiety,  but not all of them.

It rarely has to do with my hormones.

My meltdowns tend to consist of me crying hysterically and throwing pillows at the wall, as well as a bit of desperate praying.

I haven't yet learned to take control of my emotions. I can't get myself to stop crying and shaking so I just let it happen until I'm all cried out and feel slightly better.

I do want to try other methods. Someone mentioned writing it down and I really want to try that.

I always give myself a set amount of time to allow myself to be upset and cry, like 15 or 30 minutes, however long I need. Then I either force myself to go to sleep or find something to do to keep my mind occupied so I don't dwell on it too long. I like those really intricate coloring books tbh... they help me when I need something easy and non stressful to do, plus it's a creative outlet.
