The D&G Ad Spoof We've All Been Waiting For #boycottDolceGabbana

Nothing derogatory about it at all right?

Here is the original ad, my mouth dropped at their use of a ridiculously sized cannoli and asking the girl if it's too big for her, but I'm sure that wasn't done purposefully in any way, shape or form either

New logo

Boycott started when Mr. Gabbana's IG tirade were made public. All e-commerce sites in China have since removed all D&G products, and then there is this

There are some screenshots that proved that he was not hacked... I don´t know what to believe.

But I think this is a PR stunt. Is the only logical explanation, lol.

and risk 1/3 of the luxury market? I doubt it, it's plain stupidity and they have such a bad track record when it comes to offending people

Yes, it it plain stupid but really, there is no other justification for this ad and the things Stefano Gabbana has said (not only for the Chinese). It´s as if he cannot shut his mouth (like most men which is not weird).

Domenico Dolce is not as problematic, right? Please correct me if I´m wrong. Although he is part of Dolce & Gabbana and those ads... imstupid.png

I believe it's always been Gabbana, can't they keep Dolce and fire Gabbana?

In China, people are having a field day posting videos of themselves picking up their D&G clothing with chopsticks and throwing it in the trash or using their D&G shirts to clean the toilet. Not even the best PR team can save them now.

One of the details that has yet to come across the translations I've seen is that in two of the three ads, the narrator uses the plural "you". Though it may appear that the narrator speaks to the woman in the ad attempting to eat the giant pizza and the giant cannolo, the plural "you" (i.e. "you people") means the script of the ad is addressing all Chinese people behind the screen as well. So e.g. rather than asking the woman if the cannolo is still too big for her, it actually asks is the cannolo still too big for "you guys".

Also, to describe chopsticks in ways so as to make them appear primitive ("little stick-like") or dissociated from culinary use ("like pliers") while attaching an adjective like 伟大 (I personally find the usage of "great" in English to be too common to properly convey the nuance of this word; it's more "admirable", "worthy of being looked up to") to the pizza Margherita...

All the people involved from the ads' conception to their publishing, SMH.

There must be millions of babies born through IVF since the 90s, won't surprise me if the number is as high as 100 millions since it's been decades.... And this guy called them "synthetics babies".

So yeah, I can believe this guy wasn't hacked and just that nasty as a person. Racist too apparently.

This ad is not only racist toward the Chinese people. Its whole tone is derogatory towards women in general as well. The way the narrator speaks is quite suggestive about the big cannoli. Like, seriously who gave the green light for this?.

They have a bad track record and yet they didn't learn anything about it? I don't know

They've never lost as much as they have during this mistake. They got boycotted before but on a much smaller scale. They just lost 1/3 of their potential market (projected to be 40% to 50% soon) by offending China which not only is a loss, but puts them at a serious disadvantage compared to their competitors. They risk going under, not necessarily this year or next year, but possibly in the next decade due to the long term consequences of this.

I'm so glad China is a huge market like this. It can't erase people's racism, but it can certainly make people think twice and take away their innate contempt secondary to centuries of ethnocentrism. Finally asia's getting some more respect, beause people only think with their wallets it seems

Yes yes. My "I don't know" wasn't about a possible PR strategy but about a possible hacking attack (seems not apparentely), i mean even my little cousin knows that China is such a huge market and Gabbana plays with it? Can be that stupid?

Exactly, extremely condescending towards women, disrespectful of Chinese food culture and all that creepy sexual innuendo... Who thought it would be a good idea?wthplz.png The Chinese social media sites are full of memes roasting D&G

The whole thing went down so fast, it should be a case study for business/marketing schoolimhappyplz.png

that's a form of stupidity - arrogance, thinking they can do whatever they want as white men who have had very little backlash for being misogynistic and racist until now. even homophobic despite being gay. that's rich white men for you
