GREG. 674
The holiday has strayed very far from that and is now all about family/food But it's always lowkey made me feel unsettled, especially since my grandma is Native American
typo. 2,276
I love Thanksgiving! The food is always good. And like Christmas, it's more of celebration with the family. At least to me.... I'm not religious but Christmas is my favorite holiday.

Glissando 616
I do think it's a little weird to celebrate the "original" event considering the eventual genocide, but Thanksgiving was only officialized as an American holiday during the Civil War to unite the nation, so I like to think of it as a celebration of whooping Confederate ass, if that makes you feel better Source

Haze 10,915
Most of us don't celebrate it for that reason, it's definitely lost much of it's origin over time ( still very much an existent and very very horrible and saddening origin nonetheless, and a lot of Americans still refuses to acknowledge to it's true extent ) Though my family usually always celebrates it the day before, so we just call it Turkeyday. Today is leftovers day.
