My family isnt from America so I will eat knowing my ancestors didnt contribute

we used to not even celebrate it since my parents and my brother arent from here, but we do now

Oh I see :)

The holiday has strayed very far from that and is now all about family/food

But it's always lowkey made me feel unsettled, especially since my grandma is Native American

Same

I love Thanksgiving! The food is always good. And like Christmas, it's more of celebration with the family. At least to me.... I'm not religious but Christmas is my favorite holiday.

I do think it's a little weird to celebrate the "original" event considering the eventual genocide, but Thanksgiving was only officialized as an American holiday during the Civil War to unite the nation, so I like to think of it as a celebration of whooping Confederate ass, if that makes you feel better smile.png

Most of us don't celebrate it for that reason, it's definitely lost much of it's origin over time ( still very much an existent and very very horrible and saddening origin nonetheless, and a lot of Americans still refuses to acknowledge to it's true extent )

Though my family usually always celebrates it the day before, so we just call it Turkeyday. Today is leftovers day.
