Not content with merely owning the global music charts, Korea's most successful export, the boy band BTS, has now officially conquered the big screen as its full length film, Burn The Stage: The Movie, debuted to a scorching U.S. three-day weekend haul of $2.3 million. Couple that with Thursday's $1.2 million debut and the film's $3.54 million cume breaks the record for for highest grossing event cinema musical production, previously set in 2014 by the band One Direction.

Fans of the K-Pop global sensation had been waiting for these showings for months. Per the film's distributor, Trafalgar Releasing, nearly $1 million in presales had been generated worldwide a week in advance with fan viewing parties set up across the globe. The film follows the band on its 2017 Live Trilogy Episode III: The Wings tour and features both concert footage and interviews with the seven band members.

The put the film's success into perspective, the per theater average on opening Thursday was higher than for any other film in the U.S. top 10 and its domestic weekend gross placed it #10 on the box office charts, despite limited showings and a theatrical landscape of only 620 locations versus 2,000-4,000 for the other top 10 releases.
