There was a fire in Napa last year (which also emitted a ton of smoke and class was cancelled for two days) and then there's the fire that happened in Malibu plus the Paradise fire this year (which, btw has emitted way more smoke than the Napa fire despite being farther away from where I live). Maybe all these fires happening at once give people the impression that this state is always on fire or whatever but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Technically fires do happen from time to time, as they do elsewhere, but I've lived in this state my whole life and these fires definitely aren't normal. Last year was the first time I ever had school cancelled because of smoke. If anything, I'd say it's a bad idea to go to California because it's expensive or because of earthquakes (which aren't THAT much of a threat unless you're in SF or around the San Andreas fault). However, there's definitely a possibility that this might happen more in the future due to the lack of rain we've (not) had. Seriously, it's November and it's rained only once this season, and that was briefly over night. It used to rain all the fucking time throughout fall, spring, and winter during my childhood. IDGI. not in (most of) Orange County The cost of living over there is kind of high...depends on where you live. Rent in Sacramento is a bit cheaper compared to cities like LA, SF, or San Diego.
