Zayn Malik has opened up about his time in One Direction to Vogue, revealing he came away from the band without having made a single friend and says it has a lot to do with the 'snide' comments and 'small things' he 'didn't expect' to happen.

Zayn Malik has spoken out about his 'friendless' time in One Direction in an interview with Vogue, revealing that when he left the band in 2015 he didn't have 'one friend' and a series of 'snide, small things' after his departure that caused him to lose contact with his former bandmates.

In what was a pretty candid interview about both his relationship with Gigi Hadid and his One Direction career, Zayn confessed he came away from his five years in the band without having made a single friend, saying:

"I ain't spoke to any of them for a long time, to be honest with you. That's just the way it is. There's things that happen and things that were said after I left... Snide things. Small things that I would never have expected."

The 'Pillowtalk' singer explained that he's actually always been a bit of a loner preferring , saying: "I have always been a bit like that, though - always a bit of an island. I don't like to confer with too many people."

Speaking on 1D shooting to stardom, he further touched on their friendships, or rather, lack of: "People take it different ways - especially when there are five different personalities. The relationships had broken apart."

Eek, the whole thing makes for some pretty awkward reading and doesn't fill us with hope for a full 1D reunion, we wonder what the other boys think of the whole situation?

I mean, you can't just throw five people together and expect them to be the best of friends. We hear of things like this in Kpop all the time. Even in the states, with 5th Harmony, we saw it. I'm not surprised, but I do feel bad because it wasn't a good experience for anyone to go through.

I don´t believe anything he says, lol.

Beyonce gets along just fine with Michelle and Kelly. Justin Timberlake gets along with his ex-mates from Backstreet as well.

Zayn is the one who started spurting crap in his first interview after he left. And I thought Niall got along with him? Oh well...

lol my boy Zayn is talented and pretty but he's also always been a strong denier of his own culpability in, well, anything. He ditched them in the middle of a world tour, he can't be surprised they were mad about that. Even if they weren't friends by then (and I totally believe that he and Harry were at best politely ignoring each other's existence at that point lol), he kinda left them hanging in a professional sense. And before people cite his mental health issues, that was indubitably a factor but also, the big scandal that made him leave the tour and contemplate his life choices at home was actually that he was photographed with yet another pretty blonde who wasn't his fiancée...although he's done a pretty good job of making people forget about that.

I don't know who started what first, but my last sentence was meant for anyone who was slighted in the "relationship". I'm not taking any sides.

And yeah, Destiny's Child gets along fine and so do N'sync and BSB. But those are only a handful of groups that didn't split, out of the many that did because of personality differences.

I don't doubt that there were tensions and that it wasn't all roses and butterflies, but he also has a very annoying tendency of never owning up to his own mistakes, always getting a pass because he's good-looking lol. But his long time manager dropped him, his album release is getting stalled by his label and his latest releases have all flopped to oblivion; this at least says a lot about his work ethic...

Yes, they were brought together quite randomly (they weren't friends or band-buddies before), so it makes sense they don't all get along.
