Kpop idols that have endured horrible experiences

Recommended Posts

TVXQ Yunho-

When Yunho was a teenager, his father went bankrupt so his family was kicked out of the house. So the family became homeless and Yunho came in this one talk show and said that his family used to sleep on floors of the train stations. He even told couple of train stations that are good to sleep in.

JYJ Yoochun-

His parents divorced he lived in America, and so he was separated from his mother and he had to live with his dad and younger brother. Becuase his father didnt have any money, Micky was in charge of earning money to feed himself and his younger brother. He came out in this talk show and cried as he was explaining his situation.

JYJ Jaejoong-

Jaejoong from DBSK left home and lived on his own for 2 years while training. He was a waiter and at one point he didn't have money to buy food and donated blood to a blood bank to get money.

SJ Heechul-

He got in a car accident and he and fractured his left leg in 5 places, requiring him to have a surgery for 6 hours, he also had other injuries. he had to have huge, long iron rods put in his leg, making him can't dance properly. He received a lot of criticism, questioning him why he was still alive.

SJ Kyuhyun-

Leeteuk, Eunhyuk, Shindong, and Kyuhyun got in a car accident. Kyuhyun was in a critical condition. He almost died. The doctor said he only had 20% chance of living.

Kyuhyun:

"All of sudden, my eyes became blurry and my past was flashing before my eyes. From the time I entered elementary school, to when I went on vacation with my family, the first time I ever stood on stage. I thought "Ah, this is how I'm going to die"Right then Eunhyuk ran over to me and grabbed my hand he was crying and praying to let me live.
*The doctors gathered my family and the people from my company. They told them "This child is going to die soon If we do not drill a hole in his throat". Even with that surgery, my chance of living was around 20%"

2ne1 Dara-
when she was little, her father cheated on her mother, he actually had another family in korea, so her father took all her family's money and left. so dara (being the oldest sibling), had to support her whole family by herself, and had to find jobs at a young age and I heard she was bullied by some highschool students when she was studying in the Philippines.

U-kiss Kiseop-
He was suicidal for 2 months at one point because of being rejected so many times by entertainment companies.

U-kiss Eli-
He lived poorly when he stayed in China for a few years. He only ate instant noodles for 3 months

Ailee - Her nude photos was leaked online and yet she remained strong and still attended award shows and faced thousands of people.

T-ara Hwayoung-
Rumors spread that the members of T-ara bullied Hwayoung. She was "forced" to leave the group by the company.

Big Bang Daesung-
He got in a car accident and the guy that got hit died. Daesung received some criticisms, saying that he killed the guy and he is a murderer.

You can add some more and tell us the story of your biases  :)

Min trained for 8 years in hopes of a solo career in America, but after her plans fell through, she gave up and escaped back to Korea without telling anyone and took jobs as an English teacher and dance teacher for about six months. And then she went back to JYP and instead of letting her talents go to waste, he put her in Miss A

SUNGGYU DISCUSSES SOME OF THE HARDSHIPS HE FACED BEFORE HIS DEBUT ON HAPPY TOGETHER

On the January 31st broadcast of KBS 2TV‘s ‘Happy Together 3‘, INFINITE‘s Sunggyu revealed some of the hard times he had to face after coming to Seoul by himself.

During the episode, Sunggyu surprised the guests by sharing that he came to Seoul from his hometown Jeonju without any definite plans in order to become a singer. He revealed that his parents did not support his dreams initially and told him, “If you’re going to do that then get out.â€

Sunggyu shared that he was confident that he would succeed as a singer, and with this mind set, he packed his bags and with the money he earned from part time jobs, he left for Seoul.

To support himself once he was in the city, Sunggyu had to take on a lot of odd end jobs such as carrying charcoal at meat restaurants, serving at a cafe, and working at a bakery. He shared, “I was sad. When I was working at the restaurant and saw families come and eat delicious meals together while I was working in Seoul alone without my family, I wanted to cry at times.â€

On the same episode, Sunggyu revealed his simple recipe of mixing kimchi with beaten egg and frying it, and shared that he used to make this fried kimchi dish whenever he missed home cooked meals.

I guess it all worked out nicely because Nell's manager told him about Woollim holding auditions when he served him at a cafe :')

Sunggyu crying about his hardships during childhood

I believed this happened in 1997 when the Asian financial crisis hit most part of the Asian countries. Currency dropped and businesses went bad. Sunggyu was only 8-9 years old back then. He was still a young kid and didn't even know what affected S.Korea at that time. His family business went broke and that's when his family had no choice but to stay at his parents' friend's house. There's a lesson we could learn from Sunggyu's experience. Life is like a rollercoaster. At times we could be up or down. We always take things for granted for all the material things and people around us. The more we appreciate life, the better person we will become later...:-) (Please apologize if I misquoted some of the info)

ill sum the story up- when he was little, his family was or became poor, and they had to live in his friend's house. he had to share one room with his friend and his older sister. one day, they were playing a game (something like tag) where u have to catch someone or something. when sunggyu caught his friend, his friend, being a young naive child, replied, "why did you catch me?!" and sunggyu replied, "well, because it's a game!" and his friend replied in a mean way, "youre a person who lives at my house". it sounds weird when translated into english, but,in korean, it basically means something like, " you little worthless thing that has to live at others' house", implyng that sunggyu doesnt deserve to catch his friend in the game :/ that friend is still his friend.

it made sunggyu really sad, for the fact that he had to live like that, at someone else`s house. and he cried and wanted to go and tell his mum about it, but, when he saw her, he couldn`t bring himself to say anything. likely because he knew that she was going through a harder time than him, as she was an adult while he was a child. so when he started treating his friend badly after that, his mother hit him and scolded him, asking why he would be like that. but he never got to tell anyone about this and carried the burden for all these years. it was his first time telling anyone in the industry this. :`(

and the thing after he cried, when the video of him and the rest of infinite practicing and the images of them crying came up, it said:
the car that he had been hiding all this time! maybe it was because of this, that sunggyu beared all and trained so hard, with the rest of the group, and looked after his younger brothers (members of infinite) as they rose to the top. and, as the younger ones cried when they rose to the top, he remained strong, as the hyung of the group

Tbh most idols have had pretty hard experiences. Imo the training and the schedule is already a horrible experience in itself lol.  I read somewhere that the entertainment companies often target children from very poor families or families in distress. It takes them much less to get the parents/child to sign upon the dotted line.. and the child gets to have 3 square meals a day plus is dedicated to the training because they have little else to fall back upon. ): That makes me sad.

Anyway, on topic.. Younha couldn't debut in Korea because she was "too ugly to debut". So she taught herself fluent Japanese and went to Japan to debut. Then she came back to Korea to become one of the first Nation's Little Sister (stupid title, really). Her songs ended up being really successful, and her popularity rivalled BoA at one point.

Too successful, cuz her company overworked her to death and she ended up getting shingles in 2008 and pneumonia +laryngitis in 2010. Despite her condition the company insisted she completed her schedules.. so she collapsed from exhaustion. After 1 week in critical condition in hospital she went on to sue her company, fought and won a year long legal battle, and moved to an obscure small label. Now she's writing her own music and having concerts twice a year.

I'm not a fan of Leeteuk (I actually find him quite annoying for some of the things he's said/done in the past), but his family situation when he was a kid seems really messed up. I think his family was poor and his parents used to fight all the time. The worst part is that they were violent and beat him. And I'm guessing the beatings must have been worse than your usual Korean parent beatings if they were bad enough to mention.

Then of course the whole tragedy of his father murdering his grandparents (who had alzheimer's, which is depressing in itself). And then killing himself after.

Quotes:

“During my five years of being a trainee, I wondered if I’d be able to debut, why I was so unfortunate, and thought that if I were born in a wealthier household I would be happier....â€

“I’ve never talked about this before....my parents had a bad relationship. There was a lot of that before. They fought a lot, and I got hit a lot, too,†“When I was in elementary school, there was a lot of stress from that, and I was fearful of and disliked my father. As a result, I wondered if this (being a trainee) was what was right for me, and I wanted to be successful quickly.â€

yes. I remember reading the article from akp. They said that the father brought his parents with him. It means "He killed his parents and then he killed himself" He strangled his parents.

CNU's father had (has?) a drinking problem.

tumblr_n4qyvg2b4v1tqwcufo2_r1_250.giftumblr_n4qyvg2b4v1tqwcufo3_r1_250.gif

tumblr_n4qyvg2b4v1tqwcufo4_r2_250.giftumblr_n4qyvg2b4v1tqwcufo5_r1_250.gif

(it came up during kbs million seller when they were talking to a woman who had never forgiven her father for drinking and becoming agressive when she was younger, and CNU said that her story was very similar to his even if he didn't directly mention anything about abuse himself... i hope it was only the alchoholism that was the same...)
