Many of you would probably not know of 中島ã¿ã‚†ã (Miyuki Nakajima), but you would probably heard some of her songs like ç³¸ (Ito) which is still constantly being covered in music programs and tribute albums till today. However, the reason why Miyuki Nakajima is the only true Queen in Asia is not because of her success in Japan, but because of her success throughout Asia, or specifically success in the Chinese/Cantonese entertainment scene (China, HongKong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, etc.)

If you grew up listening to Chinese/Cantonese songs in the 80s, 90s and 2000s, you would probably have heard of a popular Chinese/Cantonese cover of Miyuki Nakajima's song. It is quite common knowledge that the 90s Chinese/Cantonese entertainment scene thrived partly due to their numerous covers of Japanese songs. However for Miyuki Nakajima's case, there is a popular saying in Chinese that "中岛美雪养活了大åŠä¸ªåŽè¯éŸ³ä¹åœˆ" which translates to "Miyuki Nakajima fed half of the Chinese entertainment scene".

This might not be an understatement as since the 1970s, Miyuki Nakajima's songs have been covered by numerous Chinese, Cantonese and even Hokkien singers which became huge hits in the Chinese entertainment scene. She has over 70 songs which were released as more than 100 different types of covers by various Chinese singers. Some of those covers became the defining hits of some Chinese legends like Faye Wong, Teresa Teng, Richie Ren, etc. No other Asian artiste can boast of such international or regional impact other than Miyuki Nakajima.

Here is the list of some of the popular Chinese classics which were covers of Miyuki Nakajima's songs.

Even with the Japan wave, HongKong/Taiwan wave, Hallyu Wave and the recent resurgence of Chinese wave sweeping across Asia, it will be hard to find another artiste or band which surpass Miyuki Nakajima's influence in the whole Asian region.

I'm glad I'm not the only one here that appreciates her!

It goes without saying that I'm a huge fan of hers which was something I never originally intend given her appeal towards older audiences.

People not too familiar with her will just dismiss her as an old fashioned "Mum Rock" artist which couldn't be further from the truth.  She has written contemporary pieces of music ranging from Folk, Folk Rock, KayoKyoku, Soft Rock, Post-Rock, Arena Rock, World to J-Pop.

She's written hits for a lot of idols like Kudo Shizuka, TOKIO and Momoiro Clover so she's isn't afraid to dip in to pop genres.

Her main appeal is her ability to write very emotive songs that strike sentimental chords which explains why she is one of the most covered Japanese artist today.

If anyone is keen to explore Japanese music beyond the glitz of modern J-Pop, I highly recommend Nakajima Miyuki. You won't regret it

Ito is her most famous songs right now, but she has other classics like Chijou Hoshi, Akujo, Jidai, Tabihito no Uta, Sora to Kimi no Aida ni, Mugi no Uta and Hitori Jouzu.

Ito is an amazing song, I originally heard it from Aimer and then found her and explored her further. She really is a gem!
