Those who did NOT pursue STEM.......... do you think you'd be capable of doing well in it?

You know, they say people that are good at English/Communications/History/etc aren't particularly good at (or interested in) Math/Science and the other way around.

But.

Some people are generally good at everything and any path they pick will be a breeze.

They're just good at everything. But not necessarily interested in everything.

Of course, all STEM fields are quite different. Physics, CS, Chemistry, Nursing, Pre-med.. all quite different.

I have seen people going from teaching or marketing to doing pretty good in engineering or computer science. I have seen people doing well in arts, social science and stuff, getting overly confident and getting completely crush in stem and going back to something else. And also, the game is completely different between high school and college. The vast majority of engineering students did pretty well during high school, and engineering school just pack them all together and increase the difficulty and recreate another curve.

So people who already got degrees and then went back to school/self taught?

The guy in marketing switched to engineering, the teacher literally worked for 5 years and then went back to school for computer science and they're doing above average which is pretty good giving the average. But they're not the type of person to be good at everything or stuff. It's just people exploring, discovering interests and talents, taking stuff more seriously. One of my high school physics teacher went to Harvard. He's extremely good at physics but said that he would've done terribly in premed. Really, sometimes it's fine to be specialized, if you write some great mangas or produce great songs, you'll mark the history and people will remember you.
