describe your parents’ taste in music

Recommended Posts

kind of a random topic but i thought it’d be interesting to compare parents’ taste vs their children’s

my dad loves classic rock from the 70s and 80s, as well as simon and garfunkel and the beatles

my mom’s taste is pretty eclectic but she loves celine dion, rick springfield, fleetwood mac, and maroon 5 for some reason lol

i definitely picked up some of their favorite bands, especially the beatles and fleetwood mac, but i also like quite a lot of bands that they think are trash (the doors, nirvana, radiohead, the 1975...not to mention kpop lmao)

If my parents had the same taste as yours, OP, then I would say there are hardly any differences between my taste and theirs.

I haven't seen my dad in a long time but he always listened to metal mostly. My mom's taste is more diverse, her favourite genre would be also metal but then one of her favourite artists is Madonna and she also listens to a lot of classical music. So we basically have nothing in common to be honest.

My mother was punk when she was my age. I grew up listening to The Clash, she also loved The Rolling Stones. She used to be a tango singer as well.

My father listened to classical music (he had a huge collection) and rock from the 70s, 80s. His favorite group was Led Zeppelin if I'm not wrong.

My mom loves hard rock/ metal, and hip hop and rap, and some select pop music. We listened to a lot of Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden, Jay Z, Lil Kim, Snoop Dog etc and then pop acts like J.Lo and Madonna when I was a kid. Now she loves Lady Gaga and has asked me like 5 times to see A Star is Born with her laugh.png

My taste run in reverse order, I mostly love light pop-ish stuff, then hip hop/rap and then only select rock. I still like a lot of what she introduced me to growing up.

My mom only listens to gospel music, although she appreciates soul music since she grew up in the 70s. Most of the gospel music she listens to is usually contemporary, classic, rock, or Portuguese(this is recent since she's been teaching herself the language) sub genres. So I only grew up only hearing gospel music in the house.
