She deleted the photo from Instagram so I guess she won’t be returning then anymore?

Gabby has a tendency to delete Instagram posts every now and then. If the announcement is still up on Twitter, I wouldn't be concerned. Plus, she's on the official list of competitors, so she at least submitted herself before the deadline.

She's back at TCC (she posted about eating breakfast with Jason Brown), so she must be training again. I wish her good luck and good health regardless!

I wish her good health as well, and hope she doesn't push herself if she's not ready yet.

Though, I can understand why she might as she probably wants to defend her title and she's likely to be able to since Kaetlyn isn't there.

I'm only concerned that she's being pressured by Skate Canada to return quickly because of how depleted Canadian ladies are without her and Kaetlyn (and the more Kaetlyn speaks, it seems like she's about to retire). I love her skating; I just hope she's happy to be coming back!

Yeah, that could be it. They went from 2 very strong ladies to no medal contenders at all.

Here's some vintage Gabby:

Evgenia said in a radio interview today that she’ll still be competing this season, though unclear which ones.

Thanks for the interview. It was very interesting.

Some points:

-Zhenya is doing K-pop camp, a TV show about K-pop, it seems.

-She does not want to be a housewife and is quite assertive about women having equality

-She seemed very honest in her answers, but also made it clear when she didn't want to elaborate.

-New Year will be spend in Moscow: good for her.

Eteri really has Zagitova out here practicing a 4F......wtf. The girl is injured and clearly suffering from her growth spurt and now she’s trying to do quads? This isn’t sustainable.

She also just doesn't have good enough form to be jumping quads, tbqh. I wonder if this is a combination of Eteri's influence and her concerns about being overtaken by the juniors. :/ I don't see anything good coming from this regardless. Not even men are jumping 4Fs that often.

I think it’s a combination of both. The juniors are doing quads everytime but that also isn’t sustainable for them because they won’t be able to do it in 1-2 years’ time. They really only care about the medals vs. the long term health of the skaters. It’s quite sad to see.

I get that Alina feels pressure as defending Olympic champion and she’s getting overtaken by Rika and the juniors but...this won’t be good for her. I’m glad Evgenia left to train under Orser. At least she’s thinking long term vs. short term success. We probably won’t even see Alina in the 2022 Olympics tbh.

I think Alina would be best served with a bit of rest and perhaps some training away from the youngsters.

Even Javi and Yuzuru trained at different rinks (or times can't remember which) before the Olympics, and they're great pals. Some competition is good, but I don't think it's good to always be confronted with your biggest rivals.

Javi and Yuzu were mature enough to understand that they butted heads while in preparation for big competitions. They were all well and good once they actually got there and cheered for one another, but they both wanted to win so badly and that wasn't conducive to a positive working environment. What irritates me about Eteri is that she encourages that kind of negativity, as if it's helpful to anyone.

Congrats to Boyang on skating his programs clean at Chinese Nats! Hopefully this is the turn he needs.

I have a feeling Eteri is trying to prove people wrong when we say her skaters don't have any longevity and she's using Alina for that. But even her quad Juniors aren't gonna be capable of doing those jumps in like 2 seasons anyways, the quality is just not there and we already know how puberty affects skaters. Rika already looks [mostly] matured and is the same age as Alina, her doing difficult jumps with proper technique will last far longer than any of Eteri's girls.

Luckily, Alina still has some time to prepare for Euros. Something tells me that she will be back on top of her game there.

From the information that has come out, it seems like Alina, Liza and Stanislava are going to worlds. (Mishin was told to prepare Liza for worlds).

I wonder if Liza will still go to Euros or if it is too soon after her illness. If not, I think Sofia will go and Evgenia will go to the Universiade.

As for Euros, it's nice that Belgium has two spots for ladies and men, and that all thanks to one family :). Also happy with the two spots for Finland for ladies.Guess that will be Emmi and Viveca.

Maybe Alina and her team trying to make 3F more stable? I've heard that figure skaters train quads for this purpose.

And she is training with help of rod. So, this is not that serious right now.

Alina's jump technique isn't stable enough for training quads to be of any use to her, tbh. If that idea worked in actuality, Vincent Zhou would be the finest technician on earth at this point.

The team for Euros won't change. The selection is official. So I guess Mishin and Liza decided that she wasn't ready?

Looking back on the past year, what was everyone's favourite skating moments of 2018? Mine are Yuzuru winning his 2nd OGM and his 4T-3A combo, Rika at GPF, Wakaba at World's, Kaori winning Japan Nationals for the first time, and Boyang's clean skate at Chinese Nationals.

All of the above, and also: Alena K. at JGPF, Eunsoo at Rostelecom, Evgenia at Russian Nationals, James/Cipres at GPF, Jason at IDF, Kazuki at Worlds, Liza being iconic, Mai at IDF, Mirai at the Olympic team event, Rika at NHK, Ross Miner at US Nationals, Ryok/Kim doing literally anything, Satoko at Skate America, Savchenko/Massot at the Olympics (and Worlds!), ShibSibs at the Olympics, Sofia at Rostelecom, Virtue/Moir at the Olympics (duh).

I just love everyone, okay?

Good question :)

For me it was:

Yuzuru at the Olympics obviously.

Alina putting in that -3L when she missed it at first at the Olympics. Evgenia is my fave, but that was such a boss moment.

Wakaba winning silver at Worlds.

Alexandra landing her two quads at junior worlds.

Petr Gumennik doing an excellent job in one of his JGPs, while so many guys had failed.

Rika Kihira: I don't even know to start with her.

James/Cipres at Skate Canada and GPF.

Elizaveta's ex made me laugh so much.

Evgenia's FS at Russian Nationals.

And I'm stealing Ross Miner at US Nationals from fallingslowly.

so I found out that the 4CC 2019 is going to be held 20 minutes from where I live and I'm wondering if I should get started on buying tickets now, like do tickets sell out fast or would it still be possible to get tickets at the event? I can't afford to go see all the programs though so I'll probably just get tickets to see the FS in person (esp the Ladies) and then watch the other parts of the competition like the SP and the Exhibition online.

this is super late so idk if your still looking but they have tickets on groupon

Gabby has confirmed she'll be at Canadian Nats:

Unfortunately, Karen will be sitting out US Nats.

Sad for Karen, but glad for Gabby. It's a good point to get back onto the ice for Gabby, as the competition isn't that strong and it could be a good confidence boost.

There's a small competition in Poland next week, but after that the big North American Nationals will come up one after another. Any Throback of the Week suggestions?

Gabby at Canadian Nats last year? Girl skated through pneumonia. Much respect.

Javi is back at TCC to prepare for Euros!

We all knew Mirai was sitting out Nats but she gave some details; apparently see had hip surgery recently. Get well soon, queen!
