Mariah Bell won me over with this free skate at NHK. I never really paid attention to her because she usually isn't a podium contender (and my favorite US lady has always been Karen), but her FS this season is just so good. I got emotional seeing her reaction during the choreographic sequence, especially at 4:12 when she shakes her head, like she can't believe it's real. It reminded me so much of Wakaba's FS at Worlds last year; there's something magical that happens when a skater has their dream skate, you can't help but root for them even if they're not your fave. I hope she wins US nationals. Seeing as how Gracie's comeback was a disappointment, Karen is apparently still injured, and Ashley and Mirai are basically retired, the podium spots are up for grabs. Hopefully the USFSA is fair and won't blatantly favor Bradie, though we know that's not likely.
 

TL;DR Mariah Bell assaulted me, made me cry, tugged on my hair and called me a "lil bitch".

How likely do y'all think Marin will medal? She's 4th right now and against tough competition, so some people will have to crack for her to podium. She hasn't skated her FS clean at all this season so hopefully this is the one. I really wanted this to be the season she would shine. At least my 2 other faves, Kaori and Rika, are most likely making it.

Speaking of Americans, did anyone see Jason's skate today?

I missed the men's event but I just watched it on YouTube. Omg that landing position on the 3A was beautiful, his free leg went way up!

The ISU really wants figure skating to die with all the videos and channels they're taking down. I've had to edit my Mariah Bell post like 6 times now because the video kept getting removed. Now the Rika video got taken down and that one had nearly 600,000 views. Get with the program you old farts, this is how people share stuff now, no one watches TV for figure skating.

Yuzuru's 3 million+ FS at 2017 Worlds has been deleted. The ISU is so shit, they can't even judge properly and now they're doing this. Most ISU members are like 50-60 year-olds, they're completely out of touch with how people consume things nowadays. People hardly even watch live TV anymore now that streaming exists, who's gonna fork out extra money for premium channels to watch one sport? I'm so tired of their incompetence.

Shoutout to Ayaka Hosoda, who threw down three 3As at this competition!

 

She turns 24 next month and had never placed higher than 15th at Nats. Last year, she didn't even qualify for the free skate!

She's the star of Japanese nationals for me. I didn't even know any other lady was capable of doing three 3As aside from Rika. Hopefully she gets some GP spots next year and podiums. We stan older skaters slaying the field!

 

Also, shoutout to Tomoe Kawabata! Those toe jumps are majestic, look at that 3Lz+3T at 0:42.

Eteri really has Zagitova out here practicing a 4F......wtf. The girl is injured and clearly suffering from her growth spurt and now she’s trying to do quads? This isn’t sustainable.

I have a feeling Eteri is trying to prove people wrong when we say her skaters don't have any longevity and she's using Alina for that. But even her quad Juniors aren't gonna be capable of doing those jumps in like 2 seasons anyways, the quality is just not there and we already know how puberty affects skaters. Rika already looks [mostly] matured and is the same age as Alina, her doing difficult jumps with proper technique will last far longer than any of Eteri's girls.

Would have liked to see Mariah Bell repeat her dream skate FS at NHK but I'll settle for Alysa making history. Would have been fine with either winning over Bradie.

Excited for Rika's short program choreographed by Shae-Lynn Bourne next season. Give us "Skyfall" 2.0! Also, Marin's new FS will be the La La Land soundtrack, which I'm not really excited for, but hopefully they can keep it interesting enough. Her SP is gonna be the same.
