Hacking at LAN ; OpTic India sent packing.

Recommended Posts

OpTic India has been disqualified from eXTREMESLAND 2018 Asia Finals after their player Nikhil “forsaken†Kumawat has been found guilty hacking at the LAN event. Suspicious plays and key-bindings were flagged by the Admin Team and the B5 anti-cheat which triggered an investigation of the suspected player’s PC.

OpTic India was playing Team Revolution in their group D decider match in a b03 series where the game had been called to a pause in the 19th round by the admin team. Upon inspection of Nikhil “forsaken†Kumawat’s PC it was found that he was using software to gain an unfair advantage in-game versus his opponents. Alt-Tabbing out of the game revealed another suspicious application running in the background which he deleted with no remorse right in front of the admins and tried to play dumb. The file had been recovered and subsequently the Admin panel announced that OpTic India will be disqualified from the event as a result. OpTic India has yet to make a statement regarding this fiasco.

OpTic India : From Pride to Disgrace.

The announcement of an Indian CS:GO roster made waves in the local and regional Counter-Strike scene. The organisation took trials for the ultimate roster the country had to offer. And from its inception, they began winning all the events locally and bagging a slot at this years eXTREMESLAND 2018 Asia Finals and a recent win in ESL India’s Lan finals. With the organisation’s recent success, the Indian eSports scene could be seen as a growing force with organisers like DreamHack taking an interest in the scene.

OpTic India’s disqualification is as much fault of local organisers as it is of the player himself. The local organisers at events like ESL India failed to realise that they had a hacker winning events and even getting away with it locally that “forsaken†had the audacity to even hack at an international LAN event ruining the country’s reputation. Had the organisers been a little unbiased towards players that play well at a LAN event as supposed “saints†and incapable of hacking, they would have seen through their clouded judgement that he was a player that had been called out for being a suspicious player by opposing teams on multiple occasions and owning a previously VAC banned account. Had the organisers taken action before allowing him to represent the country at an international LAN event the country and its eSports scene would not be seen as the laughing stock it has become as of now.

OPTIC INDIA DISQUALIFIED AFTER PLAYER IS CAUGHT CHEATING

The admins of eXTREMESLAND confirm that Nikhil “forsaken†Kumawat was caught for cheating during the elimination match against Vietnam’s ‘Revolution’

During the deciding match of group D, a technical pause was called on round nineteen. The head admin of eXTREMESLAND approached the player, ‘forsaken’, after suspicious activity flagged by the B5 platform anti-cheat alerted the admin team.

Upon being approached, ‘forsaken’ initially refused the admin access to his PC. After asserting his position, the admin asked the player to alt-tab out CS:GO –  only to find a suspicious program running in the background. Nikhil Kumawat immediately closed and deleted the suspicious program right in front of the admins’ eyes, a skill in of itself.

Because the file was deleted, this prolonged the investigation, as admins worked quickly to recover the deleted file. Fortunately, the file was recovered successfully, but when trying to investigate further, the executable would not open, printing an error message that Windows needed to be updated in order for it to run.

This visual observation by the admins as coupled with the anti-cheat system detecting the program give the eXTREMESLAND organizers enough reason to believe that ‘forsaken‘ is indeed, guilty.

OptiC India has been immediately disqualified from the event, and Revolution gets a free pass to move on to the next BO3 versus Malaysia’s FrostFire.

It is extremely unfortunate that this had to happen in such a crucial juncture for OptiC India. Many fans back home were eager to see if their recent success domestically would translate to a deep run in this tournament.

Needless to say, Kumawat’s career in CS:GO is over. The player has been released from the organization effective immediately. What is more heartbreaking is the betrayal towards fellow teammates and management, and we hope that this does not discourage OptiC from pursuing their venture into Indian esports, but the reality is, one player’s misguided behavior could have potentially ruined all hope for the future of his peers.
