does anyone know when her contract ends with YG?

Entirely too late. There is talk she has a 10 year contract. She debuted in 2012.

I seriously love this girl, but Freddie Mercury is just one of those artists that singers should just never cover, especially not this song. No one else will be able to give it justice tbh.

That doesn't seem fair. There's nothing wrong with her cover. It's actually lovely by all measures.

She tried to make it pretty with a clear voice but the point of the song is emotions about death : fear, anger, acceptance you can't really change this song to make it better, it was still an interesting version but nothing great

Just came across the cover. Brings a lot of good memories to the older fans in KPOP. Personally, I thought she did it justice with her constraints. That's why it's a cover. I don't expect anyone to imitate Freddie's interpretation of the song, at all. That'd truly cement the comparison with the original version, and would make the cover a mere karaoke version.

Exactly, she brought a subtly different emotion to it.  In the main part, you hear more sadness and resignation and not as much of the defiance of the Freddie Mercury version.  It's ridiculous that some people think she's supposed to be competing with Freddie Mercury and if she doesn't somehow "beat Freddie Mercury" at singing like Freddie Mercury, it's not good.  It's not a competition.  It's a tribute to Freddie Mercury, but obviously is not supposed to sound exactly like Freddie Mercury.

Lee Hi did a fantastic job and made me want to hear more from her on this song and other covers.  That's what success is in music, as far as I'm concerned--making people want to hear more.

sounds amazing but this is like 1/3 of the song

wish she did the whole thing

The only time she gets to release any music at all is when she gets support from outsiders who want her singing to promote their own projects.  She's getting close to zero support from YG.

In this case, the promoters of the Bohemian Rhapsody movie wanted her for a promotional project.  That's why it's not a full song.  About a year ago, the producers of the "Flowers Ever After" TV show wanted her for an OST song and she did one that turned out to be very popular, but YG wouldn't allow the full version to be released, so it was the only OST song in the drama that viewers could not download as a single.

It's really sad that a few companies like YG can act as gatekeepers deciding who gets promoted and who doesn't in the music industry...and then they pervertedly abuse that gatekeeping power to totally ignore and waste some of the best talent that there is.  She can't do anything without YG's permission and YG refuses to support her 99% of the time.

If you don't take the view that music and singing always has to be a competition, you can actually enjoy covers like this very much, without thinking that liking a cover somehow threatens the status of the original.

Enjoy it as a tribute to Freddie Mercury.  Enjoy it for the different nuances in vocal expression.  I thoroughly enjoyed her cover.  I love Freddie Mercury's original. I love both.

She is so underrated as a singer and YG isn't helping her in any way. This was amazing!!

YG actually isn't giving her any opportunities to be "rated" at all.  YG forces her into 3-year periods of almost zero music releases at all.  Her fans beg for songs and get nothing for years at a time.  Once in a blue moon she gets an opportunity to do something outside the company, like this promotional short cover for the upcoming movie.  YG is obviously doing the absolute minimum effort for her. It's weird and disturbing to see a company like YG so obviously wasting talent like this.
