1.The children enjoyed their swim to the full. (I thought it should be the children enjoyed their swimming to the fullest)

2.the soldiers were killed to the last man

3.the room was hot to suffocation

This came from an English learning textbook....

1. you're right

2. that's fine

3. no i don't even know what they want to say with this

Maybe they’re technically correct but they’d be awkward to use in speech.

How id fix the other two:

2. The soldiers were killed down to the last man

3. The room was hot to the point of suffocation

1. You're right it should be 'to the fullest'.

2. I guess it's right? Personally, I would have said: 'The soldiers were killed, to the last man.'

3. This one sounds a bit odd. Grammatically, it makes sense, but it sounds odd, like people wouldn't really use it in everyday speech/writing. Personally, I would have said: 'The room was suffocatingly hot.'

no, they're all kinda awkward :/

1. The children enjoyed their time swimming to the fullest (idk this is still awk)

2. The soldiers were killed down to the last man (still a little awk).

3. The room was so hot to the point you felt like suffocating. (I think that's what they're trying to say?)

I don't think this is right. It implies that everyone was killed except for the last man.

Actually, never mind, I think the phrase 'down to the last' can be used in both circumstances.

"to the full" is not a phrase used in English speech, whether it's everyday language or academic work.  i've literally never seen it.  "to the fullest" (while kind of kitschy) is correct and used in speech.

the second one is strange.  it essentially means that every soldier was killed.  not sure why they couldn't have just put "every soldier was killed" instead of trying to incorporate some awkward old-timey slang that i'm not even sure is being used correctly.  "down to the last man" might make more sense but still implies one more person is living.

the last one is just wrong lmao

They are all awkward

1.The children enjoyed their swim to the full. (I thought it should be the children enjoyed their swimming to the fullest)

"fullest" would work better

EDIT: also you could leave it at "swim" - no need to say "swimming"

2.the soldiers were killed to the last man

I've seen it worded this way in some older literature, but you wouldn't find this in everyday speech

3.the room was hot to suffocation

NOPE

would most commonly be "The room was suffocatingly hot"
