I'm Having Ear Problem, Help!

So last 2 days, I woke up and my left ear couldn't hear well and I didn't know why. I went to see the doctor and he gave me this ear-drop wax thing? I forgot the name and I used it at night before I went to sleep. The next day, I found that my ear was getting worse. I googled about this and the person that has the same problem gets syringed.

The questions are:

- Why the doctor didn't want to syringe my ear? I asked him to do that instead but he said no need and I was so fed up because this thing is getting irritating. I used to have this problem when I was 8 and the doctor straight away syringe my ear or maybe you call it vacuum?

- Should I just continue using the ear-drop thing tonight?

- Any other ways beside than seeing doctor, use ear-drop thing.

Thank you.

Keep using the stuff the doctor gave you, and if it doesn't get better or gets worse then you ought to give your doctor a call or go see him again.

I will try to use it.

Tbh, it gets worse though when I used the stuff that he gave me.

I don't feel uncomfortable until now. Sighs.

Thank you for replying!

I think give the ear drop a chance for at least 2-3 more days or maximum of 1 week. If it doesn't improve or you're noticing that nothing is changing and it seems like it's getting worse each day, talk to your doctor about it :) Get well soon. God bless you!

It takes time for medicine to work.

I don't know what your condition is or what medication you were given, so I can't even google to guess what's going on, but if there's fluid in your ear, the drops could be intended to dry up the fluid (sounds weird, maybe, to fight fluid with fluid, but SCIENCE).

Different doctors are going to have different approaches, even in the SAME country, so imagine if you're looking at info from a doctor in another country.

Edit: I meant this in response to your comment about having googled your symptoms and someone else said how they were being treated for similar symptoms.

Give it a couple of days for the current medicine to work. Follow the instructions exactly. If it KEEPS getting worse, follow up with the same doctor.

Once when I was young, I couldn't hear properly for a while because there's too much earwax in my ear...and when I went swimming, the water made it painful...

The other time was when I had a cold. I felt like i couldn't hear clearly. Another time was after listening to music for hours with headphones.

Don't worry about it!

this happens to me all the time. you can buy ear wax removal sets that come with the drops and a water syringe you can use yourself. if you're not sure about doing it yourself (it's very easy, but understandable) your doctor can syringe your ear for you. they don't do it right away because it's not always necessary, and your ears need to keep some wax in them, but if your ear is really blocked it's the best thing for it. it's just warm water squirted into your ear, it's quite satisfying actually.

if you have it where you live, there's an ear wax removal set called Otex that I use. use the drops for a few days to soften the wax, and then fill a basin with warm water so you can fill the rubber syringe from it. then squirt the syringe into your ear (not too hard) while holding your head sideways over the basin to let the wax out. it takes a few tries but you'll notice right away when it finally unblocks.

it's not serious or worrying, it's just really irritating to deal with, so I understand your frustration lol. I've woken up so many times with an ear blocked because I sleep on my side... so annoying. especially in warmer months.

eta: the kit looks like this if you want to find it or something similar:

there is also a brand called Audiclean which is basically a medicated squirt bottle for your ears but it's more for general cleaning than trying to remove blockages.

like I said you can get a doctor to do it for you but I personally like having the kit since it often happens again a few months later (if you have particularly gluey ears like me) so it's easier than going to the doctor all the time for something I can fix myself.

Give it a chance. Almost no medimant helps right after the first time you use it. If it wont help you , not even in 5-6 days (max, usually it tooks around 2 days) and doctor wont treat you differently, try to visit different doctor. Not every doctor is good.

Btw dont took google so seriously. It knows nothing, its just 'bot'.

Couldn't hear in my right ear after swimming before :omg: It wasn't painful though. My parents used this ear drop medication thingy as well to soften the earwax, then asked me to sleep on that ear. The next day the earwax was peeking and it was easy enough to take out. Maybe you're supposed to do the same thing? Or we have a different case. Best to ask a doctor still to keep it from getting worse.

Aw thanks guys!

I think I will try to use the stuff that the doctor gave me last night.

If it gets worse, I'll try to meet different doctor tomorrow and asks him/her to flush my ear since it's getting irritating since I could only hear with my right ear :(
