onanimaster 51
this is so depressing... i miss 2008-2011 the good thing is that all these lil soundcloud rappers who disappear after one hit song are interchangeable boring local acts and they seem to have no real impact the bad thing is that hip-hop is heavily dominating all streaming platforms so i don't think pop music can make its comeback anytime soon... streaming ruined the music industry! well at least gaga had a career renaissance with a star is born

All it does is include people who were unwilling to pay the price for music to begin with.

Drama Drama Drama 3,399
Ariana, Camila and Dua Lipa are trying but reach #1 of BB hot 100 is complicated with a lot of trap/hiphop making comeback with bomb album what change constantely the charts. But the album bomb (with exception of Drake) downfall 3 weeks later. Despite the trend, Havana, Ariana songs, Khaled song and Youngblood made interesting positions on Top 10 of BB Hot 100. Happier (Marshmello ft Bastille) is a promising hit. Maroon 5 are bland but they know how to catch GP. I don't understand US taste.
Gin-iri 984
It's a phase y'all, shit comes and goes every 7-8 years. Mainstream music is like a rinse and repeat cycle, just look at the 90's to early 2000's to 2010's.

I don't know if this will really happen since streaming is a thing now. Rap was said to be the biggest genre for the past 20 years, and now we're officially seeing it due to streaming becoming the main way of listening to music. Most of the people who were listening to rap weren't buying music before, but now their listening is being added to the charts due to streaming. Most of the people listening to rap are young men, and it's not as if they're suddenly going to become fans of pop. Rap will continue to be on top, like how rock was decades ago because it is the music of young men.

indigo 16,433
I'm not a fan of streaming. All it does is include people who were unwilling to pay the price for music to begin with. People are paying more for music now then they have been in recent times, over 120 a year. People weren't buying 10 albums a year or 90 songs a year before. It's converted the mass of pirating youth to consumers. I don't know if this will really happen since streaming is a thing now. I see pop fans fretting over this, but I can't see the issue with actual listening habits being represented more? I think the question is, why don't pop fans stream? Where did the listener base go? Pop songs used to sell 3 million + downloads legally, if just half those people were listening to new pop songs once a day- we wouldn't see such a darth of it on the streaming charts. But pop isn't dead, there's been a number of successful pop songs this year. Beggars can't be choosers and pop songs still have their place, it's just big glamourous pop stars don't. Someone like Drake can crossover, but these SoundCloud mumble rappers? I think a lot of pop fans would rather buy. And there are more rap fans overpowering them in streaming. I think a lot of pop fans have left because let's face it, the pop acts today just aren't that interesting. They're so... pedestrian. And I think that's the issue, a lot of people want divas, but an even larger group doesn't.
