[enter-talk] IDOLS WHO RECEIVED RACIAL DISCRIMINATION ON AMERICAN TV TODAY

This was during Good Day LA today

The guy circled in red is Mark and he's a Korean born Canadian. His nationality is Candian and he's been living in Canada since he was small and did the SM auditions there before coming to Korea.
But when they were doing the interview in English..

MC: Are you from Canada?

Mark: Vancouver, yes
MC: Wow! Amazing, very cool. Your English is awesome.
And she started complementing his English.

Mark's expression (look at Haechan's expression at the back)

Everyone looked so taken aback but since they are idols, they just laughed it off.

He's from Canada so I think that she was being pretty discriminatory when she was complementing his English.
What's different than our country saying to a white man who was born in Korea "your Korean is so good~"?

ㅇㅇ |2018.10.10 08:11 ì‹ ê³ í•˜ê¸° She is being racist. There are so many people who don't understand what is wrong here...;;; Peter (the Spider Man actor) once complemented Eric Nam for his English and received so much backlash... It's like they are prejudiced against Asians and think that every Asian is bad at English.. just the fact that this is what they think makes them racists..

ㅇㅇ |2018.10.10 09:45 ì‹ ê³ í•˜ê¸° ; Yah, I'm not even his fan but I'm mad at this. It's like someone coming up to you and saying that you're good at Korean... I'm born in Korea so of course I would be good at Korean.... this makes me mad

ㅇㅇ |2018.10.10 10:03 ì‹ ê³ í•˜ê¸° No but it's true that this is racist;; He's Canadian so he's good at English. She's saying it like it was so unexpected;;  does she think that he would be bad at English just because he's Asian? F*ck

ㅇㅇ |2018.10.10 18:52 ì‹ ê³ í•˜ê¸° Seriously, the more I see things like these, the more I understand why Mark's mentality is so firm... he lived in Canada for 5 years and then lived in the US for 5 years, and then he went back to Canada for 5 years and then came to Korea for 5 years and debuted 3 times.... To be honest, people were xenophobic when he was in Korea to because of his English accentㅜㅋㅋ Seriously... our Mark is so preciousã… ã… ã…  but I was more annoyed by the fact that he was so handsome yesterday

They literally told her he was from Canada. Why would she then go and compliment his English??

Canada is really diverse in terms of languages. a lot of immigrants are from there. hence the compliment to his english.

Wait she said this afterwards?

you just proved my point. Being from canada doesn't mean you have good english

Are you even following this conversation? You said it would be "quite blatant" that a white guy from Canada would have english as his mother tongue when that's not true. The issue here is that she likely wouldn't have begun praising Mark's english if he was white.

but she asked him and he said he is from canada wtf imstupid.png

My thick brain didn't process that bit. That's really uncool of her.

no because its quite blatant that english would be his first language. unless he is greek or sum

What if it's French? if she wouldn't say the same thing and assume his first language is English instead of French, why couldn't she do the same thing for Asian Canadian? That's still a racist action
