Imagine if BTS is nominated for a Grammy in a hip hop category

And they actually win. What would the backlash be? Would it be worse than when Macklemore won, with people saying he was a cultural appropriator that didn't deserve it over more talented acts? Would the historic anti-black views of the Asian-American community, especially in regards to Korean store owners in the hood, be brought up?

They'd get praised, congratulated and hyped and everyone will become their fans and join the fandom! I mean, even a lot of well known and famous hip-hop producers themselves have said they want to work with them after listening to their music, oof.

Plus there's karma that always makes things happen for BTS in the opposite way to what y'all think were going to happen.

Anticipate #BTSxGrammys and #BTSxTM88!

would be a mess and probably get hate.

reminds me when the grammy's first time in history made a "heavy metal" category and jethro tull won out of nominees metallica, acdc, jane's addiction, iggy pop leaving everyone in the audience and people watching confused.

"Would the historic anti-black views of the Asian-American community, especially in regards to Korean store owners in the hood, be brought up" - What this got to do with BTS?? 0u0plz.png

Everything, if you know what the US is like now.

What an imagination you have there.

Keep dreaming and anticipate them winning World Music Album.

Umm, no.

The award for Best World Music Album, reserved for international performers exhibiting "non-European, indigenous traditions"

I could see their Black fangirls trying to argue that they're HepHap, whilst trying to argue that Eminem or Drake aren't lmao. They'll win the Kpop category if they introduce one... who knows...

Latasha Harlins will definitely be brought up if they won the Hip Hop Grammy tho...

LOL, why on hell would there be a KPop category?

They have categories fir all genres, including ethnic genres like Reggae, as well as regional categories like Latin so I could see them introducing one with the recent mainstream coverage of Kpop. Like how Billboard introduced a Kpop chart.

I don't think there's a point though, it'd probably be as credible as the other Year-End Awards or the 'Asian' award shows.

KPop is nowhere near as relevant as y'all think. There is literally one act that's been around for a few months that nobody over 25 checks for. That is not enough to make a Grammy category.

Billboard has the KPop chart because there is a Korean Billboard, just how there is a JPop chart because there is a Japanese Billboard. This really has nothing to do with how popular it is in the US.

The Grammys has categories for some pretty niched genres...

Considering that alot of top acts dropped an album this year (or late last year), it'd be a riot.

It'd be a shit show and while race would definitely be a topic to further push hate, it's the fact that a group that hasn't even officially debuted in America, beat out legends. You know what I mean? The same way people would freak out if Jaeden Smith or Silento beat BTS, EXO, and Wanna One for #1 in the Pop category (or whatever the fuck) in the MAMA's.

You have Beyonce and Jay Z's joint album, Eminem, Cardi B, Kanye West, the Young Money trio: Nicki, Drake, Lil Wayne, and the younger ones like Juice WRLD, Post Malone, XXXTentacion, Travis Scott and many more. Even underground artists like Lil Skies and Denzel Curry released very bright reviews on their albums.

If they had a hit like Gangnam Style or Despacito (I'm talking both sales and public appeal) then I'd understand (and applaud) their win, but to give them a Grammy because their BTS or just because they want one... Naw.

Why would they win?

I can understand a nomination since their albums are predominantly hiphop and r&b but why would they win in this year of all years?

Other than for your hypothetical controversy blow up. Cause this thread and line of thought basically falls apart outside of that premise.
