I wanna get into weight training, but I'm a total wimp

I can run for miles, no problem, love it. Put a dumbbell in my hand and I give up after 5 minutes.

what type workout are you more keen on?

I love a good balance of both. :) Cardio used to be my thing, but since I've been able to use heavier weights over time, I like knowing that I'm making progress. I find both to be enjoyable.

any tips on where to start with weights? xD

I can't stand cardio, love weight training.

But most of all, I like to cross-train. I see the best results in cross-training. I like it because it combines the best of both worlds, and you usually don't need equipment.

One of my favorites is Zuzka Light. She used to post a work out every week (ZWOW) for free, but ever since she started her paid site, she doesn't do them there anymore. She still posts videos of small workouts though.

Before she did the paid site, she uploaded over 30 ZWOWs on Youtube.

Yeah, definitely.

I kind of stopped following Bodyrock when she left. Didn't it kind of fall apart? Like her ex got with some Australian girl who kept getting herself augmented (namely, her breasts and lips)?

lol yeah. it just wasn't the same anymore. i didn't like the new host much, plus the way they shot the videos... too sexualized.

If you're using free weights, and you have hardly used weights in your life, you would probably start with whatever you can stand using when doing a set of 10 or 12 reps (you can probably look online for basic exercises). If you only use weights light enough for you to do a ton of reps, then you're not helping yourself get anywhere. Same goes for weight/toning machines. If you can't handle more than 12 reps per set with whatever weight you're working with, then you'll be getting a workout. It's good to try to do at least a couple sets if you can. Eventually, you should try to do the same but with gradually heavier weights. I *think* I've been told you should shoot for increasing by 10 lbs per month if you do regular, frequent strength workouts. Also, try beginning your workouts with strength (if you do a mix of strength and cardio in one day), since you don't really burn fat until you've been working out for a while, and you'll have more energy to begin with to use weights. Cardio can come after (though I would do abs in between). Don't forget to warm up first, though.

But please take this info somewhat lightly because I'm in no way qualified to dispense workout advice, LOL. This is what I've learned from fitness trainers, exercise classes, and myself. I took over a year-long break from regular workouts due to travel, and I've obviously regressed during that time, so now I'm trying to make up for that and having to re-learn a lot of stuff.
