I guess they would be surprised to see Babymetal playing on festivals in front of several ten thousand regularely or having several own concerts all over the world each year which range from smaller venues up to Wembley Arena. It's somewhat true that there's not that one single big pop star which is known all over the world. But in some genres, japanese artists are very well established, like rock, metal and also in the more electronic pop genre with Perfume and several years ago Ayumi Hamasaki with some known DJ's using her songs for a lot of remixes in electronic music.
