The friGAYS anime's  fall '18 thread (Dakaichi, Ms. Vampire & UzaMaid)

When I read the line-up for this fall, I thought Bloom into you and Dakaichi were the only new entries with homosexuals themes. I was shock when I read in the anime community that there are two new shows with gay themes which premiered on friday as well. Even tho the homosexual factor may not be a vital element for the plot development is still there, and strong, not

altho is either as a bait or as characteristic of a character.

Let's start with the BL one:

Dakaichi (Dakaretai Otoko 1-i ni Odosarete Imasu)

daikachi_b.png

Takato was the "most huggable" idol for five straight (lol) years, being it's greatest pride above all. Until newbie actor Azumaya dethrones him. After such drastic change, Takuya shelter himself with alcohol until he gets wasted. However, Azumaya caught him during the #mess and decides to blackmail Takato in exchange of physical affection.

Cloverworks is on charge of this 13 episodes adaptation from Hashigo Sakurabi's manga.

OP - Mukanzen Monologue

ED - Chuntaka

Premiered on October 5th and Crunchyroll is simulcasting the show.

And now, the two new ones I did not expected:

Ms. vampire who lives in my neighborhood (Tonari no Kyūketsuki-san)

m_v_b.png

Akari is saved by modern vampire Sophie from some strange incident. And ever since then Akari set a huge interest on Sophie and her life-style

A collaboration between Studio Gokumi and AXSiZ to bring to the TV in 12 episode the manga by the same name from Amatou.

OP - †Kyūtie Ladies†

ED - Happy!! Strange Friends

Since October's fifth, Crunchyroll set it available for simulcast.

and finally:

UzaMaid (Uchi no Maid ga Uzasugiru!)

u_m_b.png

Tsubame, former Self-Defense Force official now unemployed, finally fulfill her lolicon dream of working somewhere where there are cute little girls. Now being the maid of Misha, a girl who lost her mother when she was younger.

Doga Kobo is producing the 12 episodes long adaptation of Kanko Nakamura's manga work.

OP - Uzauza Waossu!

ED - Tokimeki Climax

Crunchyroll is simulcasting the anime which premiered on October 5.

And so there are, with the irony all of them will premiere new episodes on fridays: Ms. Vampire, Bloom Into You, Dakaichi, & UzaMaid.

So you know now, this anime fall, fridays are friGAYS.

Takes deep breath...

#YUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIBBBBBBBBAAAAAAAAIIIIIIITTTTTTT

Well more like, #shojoaibait 'cause there is no lesbian sexual innuendo...yet.

Anyway, this is just another moe slice of life anime, and based on this first episode I take it. Everything went alright, nothing outstanding, except by the middle of the episode where the fast pacing felt awkward but then alright, more important, it was funny. The relation between Akari and Sophie works enough to draw me a smile. Hope it can manage to keep it's peace.

I can see this will be one of those animes where it's charm relies on how low one of the protagonist can get, and I'm not complaining.

The execution of the plot was rushed for my taste, however, it managed to flesh out the personality of Takato very well (extremely well I would say) and the desires of Azumaya among the rush too. Did well on providing the shock factor but I can't say the resolution of the episode was up to the protagonist's (Takato) standards.

The production did good with some flaws of panning and, on a personal note, I think I may take time to get use to the character design.

In conclusion, If you enjoyed Citrus you may enjoy this episode.

'can't say I'm a big fan of the fanservice but one of my favorite anime from last season was Happy Sugar Life so, whatever.

Seeing Tsubame ridiculousness to fulfill her creepy fetish, the dad not being oblivious but more like let it pass and Misha confronting Tsubame a la Home Alone was glorious. The show left clear is aiming for it's genre's public and is doing great on that since the MC being an open thirsty lolicon from the start can be a huge turn off and some comedy moments can be creepy but if you don't mind that is funny.

An special mention to the production...is still ironic that shows like this leave most popular shows on shame in production value, being the running scene through the stairs in this episode a testament of that.

And the #yuribait/#shojoaibait continues.

The relation between Sophie and Akari is still the highlight of the series and how Hinata was introduced to the action was really well done, it did not felt forced neither out of place and even managed to set her character in this episode.

Moreover, the interactions between Sophie & Akari are just adorable and with every new situation they go through it can be seen how different they are but the script manage to successfully blend them together.

Is not outstanding but it really does not need it now, it's right pacing with sweet theme is really doing wonders.

Dakaichi

I said previously that the charm of the show may rely on how low the characters can get, but this episode made me think that it may mostly rely on the Yaoi fanservice...and I do not mind.

The drama on this episode unfolded well and the pacing was better than the previous episode but it made me realize it's biggest mistake. And it is that Takato fell in easily into Azumaya's game which really contrast with Takaya's attitude of a strong egotistical douchebag. Moreover the premise of blackmail felt inexistent in this episode despite that it was sold as the main premise in the synopsis.

But even with that, is managing to be a decent show, sure it may look like a typical fanfiction, but I felt is self-aware of that. Moreover, mangareaders are saying the anime is excluiding some rape scenes to make it more digestable...so I guess is doing good on it's own merits.

...gotta check out the manga later.

In one hand the fanservice toned down compared to the previous episode, the ridiculousness as well; However, the creepiness factor was elevated. But still managed to give me a pleasure time and laughs, and as expected some base were set for a major plot development.

The series pretty much still aiming for it's specified public with Tsubame as the MC. I do not know if I'm among them but seeing a thirsty twenty-something open yuri lolicon desperately trying to satisfy her fetish is something I did not knew I would enjoy.

And finally, Tsubame being scared of pedophiles was so...LOL (that's internet for you).

Just cute girls & vampire doing cute things and nothing more but that's enough.

I love how the series went a slight deeper about Sophie's vampire nature and even made some clever jokes about it. There wasn't any significant development in the characters nor the story but it does not needed now.

Next week the next vampire comes in! :la:

The show is self aware of being a fanfiction by omitting obvious plot elements that are vital for the story (like the blackmailing premise) but is alright, Takato character really steals the show but he lose spark by going out of character to provide the yaoi quota with Azumaya, I feel it could had been handled better if Takata did not gave in to Azumaya so easily and worked more on his two-face personality.

However, is still an entertaining show.

I'm impressed how the show managed to inject serious character building and development to Misha, it wasn't deep nor complex but enough to make her not bland.

However, the comedy obviously rely on Tsubame ridiculousness to satisfy her lolicon fetish. They are creepy, that's for sure but if you get over that this show is comedy gold.

Ellie is such a blast as a character, love her but of course Akari will scare her as well. The show just keep it´s regular flow, cute girls & vampires doing cute things with #yuribait and nothing more but it does not need nothing else. The dynamic between Akari and Sophie are the core of the show but the addition of Ellie really boost it up the dynamics, more than Hinata did (no offense). Anyway, it´s still among the sweetest stuff to see this season.

I already felt once the filming arc finished the show may not know where to go and just throw some Yaoi fanservice and it did not dissapointed. Becuase this episode felt plain compared to the previous episodes, mostly because Takato lost it´s douchebacg spark to give space to the yaoi-fanfic like fanservice. There was some background story development for Takato but not enough to equal the awesomeness of his prescense on the first episodes. However, the comedy was still on point, thanks to Azumaya thirstyness and the fanservice ok (being a bit more graphical would not hurt u know but yaoi teacher-student fetish...not bad) and Narumiya seems promising as a side character for the lols. Overall still entertaining despite the more notorious flaws.

I´m impressed how the show manage to slip some serious character development and building among all the creepy comedy premise but it works. There was more hints regarding Tsubame past and more insight about Misha character. The charm of course still relies on Tsubame fulfilling her fetish but I gotta say, Misha re-inserting herself into society may turn among the charms of the show as well. Of course with the comedy gold moments the anime provides.

The backstory of Hinata and Elli was a surprise but a welcome one. It showed the right amount of information to givr some deep to those characters and, as always, Akari and Sophie interactions are cute.

A new arc started and Takato recovered his charisma by being an asshole like in the firsts episodes although iy pretty much left clear he will be the "gentleman in distress"

Of course gyaru loli will take Tsubame as her master for cuteness LMAO. The new character unfolded well and, as always, the comedy around Tsubame went neat.

Liked how Sophie just destroyed the expectations of Sakuya about vampires - Sakuya's expected dark and dangerous vampires? naaah, that so old fashioned, modern vampires order their blood online xD-. Another episode where the difference between the cast and how they interact is the higlight of the show.

This arc was resolved very quickly but satisfactory enough to not let a bittersweet taste by the show standards, however, it seems the real deal will be in then next arc.

A rich lesbian, loli-clothing lover, masochist former JDSF is the new character...I love U show.

Th art style felt different from previous episodes, thus the characters seemed different, but the animation was more fluid and wacky which fits the overall mood of this episode. Midori really was a blast and nice adition to the cast and eleved the comedy of the series. On side note, I love how misha takes notes on these "adults" so she never necamos likes them (lol).

This answer what is the greatest enemy that a vampire could face on it´s lifetime, is not a vampire-hunter, neither big onions nor crosses but the beach episode  , besides that the dynamics between Akari, Sophie, Ellie and even Hinata were on point on this episode and the after-credit scene was warm and cozy.

Dakaichi

This felt like a totally different show, the plot treatment, the art direction even the characters and thus, for my surprise, it was for the better and I can say this is the best episode of the show so far...even tho, as expected, it was a flashback. But at least it gave some, minimal, depth to Azumaya's character and gosh it was nice seeing Takato being a two-faced asshole again.

UzaMaid

I really, really hope Midori appears more, her dynamics with the cast are just a blast that elevate the show's humor to the max. Other than that this episode unfolding went normal with a lot of comedy gold moments.

A beach episode but in reaility it was a #HBDRS (#HOTBOYSDOINGRICHSTUFF) episode so it was very chill episode, and a hit or miss overall...even the fingering.

'Gotta love how the show is still exploring it's universe and playing with it, like Sophie's conception of the world due anime or the aftermath of turning a vampire. Th part with the vampire.hunter and how Sophie and Ellie decieve her was hilarous.

Dakaichi

dA.png

This episodes injected some background of Takato and his point of view on his meeting with Azumaya altho at some points it tried too hard. However, it was nice to see Takato's douchebag-self back and it seems the paparazzi arc may took off...maybe. On a side note, the play secuence was really well executed and probably the higlight of the show so far.

UzaMaid

umB.png

it's starting to feel dry compared to past episodes, probably beacuse the Midori's arc set the bar high in terms of comedy. On the other hand, it seems the production improved compared to the last episodes.

The gayest episode so far lol, the amount of ships and homosexual innuendos is out of the radar. Besides that, the dynamics between the main cast and and supportive cast was cute throu the holidays this episode embraced.

Dakaichi

dA.png

The paparazzi's arc finally took off, it wasn't as spicy as expected but thrilling enough to make it entertaining, however I'm interested how things will go with that cliffhanger...actually I can see where is going but still.

UzaMaid

A huge improvement from last episode, and is thanks the show's charm of combining absurd comedy with serious drama and nailing it...and becuase it was a Misha's step-father focus episode.

This episode managed to be more gay than the previous episode LMAO, and the little details on real-life stuff (like Super Mario Bros 2, the actual one)

was a nice touch which help to make Sophie relatable to anyone who has a geek side.

Dakaichi

So the drama with the Paparazzi unfolds but with some twists here and there, it got a bit spicy and probably the most dramatic episode to date. But most important, Azumaya got himself a MILF,

UzaMaid

The show finally got back on track, Tsubame being creepy AF, Midori being Midori, the production quality regained the level of the first episodes and the drama blended perfectly without feeling out of place.

Pretty much ended as expected, without much going on but entertaining thanks to the dynamics between the characters because at the end it was a sitcom all along. No overall plot just #CGDCT and it was enjoyable.

Dakaichi

dA.png

An obvious drop on quality in the production but it did not affected that much the script, mostly because this episode was more laid back, Altho, When did everybody knew Azumaya and Takato are, somehow, dating? anyway I feel with this episode everything was solved so the final episode may be a filler...or maybe not.

Uza Maid

unA.png

The blend of drama and comedy went smooth like before and is all thanks to the characters' personality and how the script nailed on their reaction on dramatic situations, and even thought Tsubam's backstory was obvious thanks to previous hints still appreciated how good it was handled. Overall, it was not a wasted potential but it could had given more, in special with a cast a like that. Anyway, it was a fun ride and I got a new  anime MILF, Midori!

A filler one, since the story pretty much ended on the last episode but is welcome to see Takato on his usual douchebag self and the MILF giving life lesson, all hail the MILF.

To put in simple, this is like reading a fanfiction from asian fanfic but tamed and indeed tamed since they really axed some rape scenes OMG so if you are up to that then hop in, otherwise this show can be easily skippable. Not because is Yaoi because then at best is average...like more than a half of seasonal shows, but enjoyable nonetheles...like more than a half of seasonal shows, again.
