Why aren't disabled people represented in the media more?

With all the talk about POC and LGBT people being represented in the media, why isn't there the same discussion around disabled people? I'm streaming MUSIC STATION ULTRA FES 2018 right now, and there was a commercial for a detergent pod, in which a man in wheelchair was using it. It made me think of how little I see disabled people in the media compared to pretty much every other minority group, even though disable people are in every demographic group there is.

There very much is, just because you're not aware there is doesn't mean there isn't

There isn't if it's not being discussed en masse like #OscarSoWhite and the buzz around "Crazy Rich Asians."

Because disabled people are actually disadvantaged.

Meaning?

Meaning they don't have the platform/power to actually advocate for themselves like the faux-oppressed do.

This is an issue that's been overlooked, constantly. Apparently, even though there are about a billion people with disabilities-spanning ethnicity, religion, SES, gender, sexuality, nationality, etc. (making up a decent portion of the global population), actual research shows they are rarely represented and people often don't bother talking about their representation. People tend to focus on discussing representation only for some but not really for all. Studies have actually stated that many times, media has contributed to the negative perspectives on disability

once again you not being in tune to it doesn't mean there isn't. there was that huge backlash for the movie "me before you" because people did not like it's representation and message about people with disabilities, not to mention a tv show got lots of criticism for casting an able body actor to play a character in a wheelchair.recently and more

representation of people with disabilities very much gets talked about, is there enough being done? no imo, but the discussion is very much happening

Not every disabled person is unable to articulate themselves and their concerns. And there are organizations that advocate for disabled people.

It's not happening on a large scale, that is my point.

Probably because disabled people are even more of a minority than POC and the LGBT community. Maybe if more disabled people in the entertainment industry (I don't think there is a lot, I can't think of any) or more mainstream stories were made they would be more vocal about representation and we would see a bigger movement than just one off hot topics like when that film Me Before You came out.

if you think disability advocacy only applies to physical disabilities, perhaps, but it doesn't, so i disagree.

I know that it applies to not just physical disabilities. And I stand by what I said earlier. The discussion is nowhere near the size of the POC and LGBT discussions.

Not to the extent that they're presented to be.

Yes, because you're in a filter bubble.

i feel oppressed by your inability to externally host an image so it shows up on a forum

And the fact that that's your concern is what's irritating me tbh, people always do this, instead of playing this game of oppression Olympics and trying to decide who's movement is bigger or deserves better, how about you just learn about and tune into the conversation about disability advocacy that's already happening, and spread awareness and information. this whole "why doesnt this movement get as much attention as this one" does absolutely nothing for the issue and is just thinly veiled animosity and bitterness imo

You were the one who went on about how it was being discussed and then later admitted that it's a niche thing. I was stating facts while you were the one playing games. Me talking about it is not going to change things. That is the media's job.
