This will be the one occasion where I have to question the claim of Japan "suddenly" accepting her. Contrary to the knee-jerk presumption of some folks even internet hellholes like GC were quite supportive of her since 2016-ish, back when her best GS results were still limited to R2~R3 appearances.

 

While Japan is not necessarily a utopia for biracial~multiracial folks, it is noticeably kinder to individuals with a clean slate (see: Aska Cambridge, pre-Bunshun Becky) compared to those with a history of relatively delinquent behavior (Kenji Haga, Ariana Miyamoto etc.). Naomi's personal conduct is virtually pristine on and off-court hence the positive comments. There would be a lot more nit-picking, if not outright hostile remarks as was the case with Kimiko Date or even Kei in the past had she been less of a class act.
